Personal Protective Equipment Survey

Prospect’s 2016 survey and report on women’s personal protective equipment shed light on the challenges that many women face in getting appropriate PPE.

The report called for action from employers to provide all workers with PPE suitable for them, allowing them to work safely, effectively and with dignity.

We are now conducting another survey to measure employers’ progress, and to target our next actions. Responses from all genders are welcome.

Just transition seminar at Ratcliffe power station, 31 March 2020

Prospect is holding a special event at Ratcliffe power station to debate the challenges posed by climate change on the energy workforce.

Members and reps will be joined by industry officials, academics and a speaker from the government's Green Growth Strategy team.

The event runs from 10am-2.30pm on Tuesday, 31 March.

Public speaking training for members in the energy sector

Prospect is offering a short training session in public speaking for our energy sector branches who are sending delegates to National Conference.

There will be two separate sessions:

  • 15 April, 10.30am-1pm
  • 16 April, 12.30pm-3pm

Both sessions will be held at New Prospect House in London.

Britain's energy regulator, Ofgem, has published its decarbonisation programme action plan. It includes targets such as getting 10m electric cars on the road by 2030 and supporting a four-fold increase in offshore wind.

A trial is underway at Keele University where hydrogen is being injected into the gas network to heat up homes and buildings. It is the first time that zero carbon hydrogen has been injected into the UK's modern gas grid.

To mark International Women's Day, Renewable Energy World has published an editorial explaining why more women should consider a career in renewables.

In the same vein, onshore wind developer Statkraft has pledged that 40% of its leadership positions will be held by women by 2030. The Norwegian firm has recently opened a new office in Glasgow and says it will invest up to £600m in Scottish projects over the next five years. 

A professor at the University of California, Davis is developing prototypes of solar cells that would be able to generate power at night.
