IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Final withdrawal of QCF assessment
 

It has been well publicised that Ofqual’s Qualifications Credit Framework QCF has now ended (Sept 2015) with last registrations in December 2017. The Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) has been up and running since 2015 and our replacement RQF qualifications are now quite well established with positive feedback. We would like to give learners on the legacy QCF qualifications as much time as possible to complete their studies and finalise their assessments.

Ofsted rates IAB Accredited Centre, Redbridge Institute outstanding
 

Redbridge Institute of Adult Education has been rated outstanding by Ofsted. The inspectorate’s report said the adult learning provider in East London was outstanding in all areas.

The report says leaders, managers and governors have inspired staff to create “a culture of excellence, tolerance and respect, where learners and staff express their individuality and thrive in a harmonious, high-quality learning environment”.

Financial services leaders worry about skills shortage
 

A shortage of talent is becoming a key concern with the financial services sector, with half (49%) of senior leaders citing finding skilled candidates as the biggest worry over the next 12 months, according to new research.

Other worries included tightened regulatory controls (cited by 42% of respondents), implementing new business processes (35%), market instability, bank recapitalisation, and training existing employees (all 32%).

Ask Alexa about tax credits
 

HMRC has developed a customer-focused service via Amazon Alexa to help more than three million customers renew their tax credits by 31 July. 

Specifically for those seeking help with their tax credits renewal, customers with Amazon Alexa-enabled devices can ask Alexa to ‘open HMRC’ and ask for help with a change of circumstances, payment information, or a renewal.

Scotland introduces first-time buyer property tax relief
 

Around 80% of first time home-buyers in Scotland are set to pay no tax on their purchase following the introduction of a new relief on 30 June, the Scottish government has said. 

The land and buildings transaction tax (LBTT) first time buyer relief sees the zero-rated LBTT threshold raised from £145,000 to £175,000 for first-time buyers.

China's second quarter growth meets expectations at 6.7%
 

China's economy grew at an annual pace of 6.7% in the three months to June, official data showed, meeting forecasts for the period.

That marked a slight slowdown from a 6.8% expansion recorded in the previous quarter. The data comes as the government attempts to curb growing debt and as trade tensions with the US escalate.
