Preparing for CompetitionOLV Science Olympiad is busy preparing for their first competition of the season. OLV will take two teams to compete against nationally ranked teams at the Chattahoochee Science Olympiad Invitational in Johns Creek, GA on Dec. 8th. This large competition consists of 48 middle school teams—many of these teams make it to Nationals on a regular basis, so the competition is at a much higher level than usual. Following this competition, OLV Science Olympiad will begin preparing for another invitational on Jan. 12th. The Friendship Christian Invitational will be in Lebanon, Tennessee, and again will have many nationally ranked teams competing. These invitational competitions help the OLV Science Olympiad team prepare for the regional competition, which will be March 2nd at the University of Alabama. We wish them luck in these competitions and send our prayers with them for safe travels. Anyone interested in sponsoring OLV Science Olympiad (through donations or helping to train for events) should contact Ann Stevens at astevens@olvsch.com.

Alyce Voisin (OLV '16) has been selected to perform at Carnegie Hall this coming February and at the Sydney Opera House in Australia in August 2019 with the Honors Performance Series choral music program. The Honors Performance Series was established to feature talented student musicians in a once-in-a-lifetime performance on stage at Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House. Alyce was selected along with finalists from 49 other states in the US, Washington DC, 3 provinces of Canada, Australia, Bermuda, China, Hong Kong, Mexico, Poland, Qatar, South Korea, and Venezuela. She is so excited to perform with such a diverse group of vocalists in two of the best venues in the world. Alyce's involvement with the OLV drama department and participation as a cantor in the school and church choirs were strong catalysts in her growth as a vocal artist. Alyce's mother Lori noted "her experiences at OLV have given her the foundation to grow her gifts both vocally and spiritually in a very safe and encouraging environment." We congratulate you on your accomplishments Alyce and wish you the best in your travels. Mary Elizabeth Madden (OLV '18) was recently crowned, Miss. St. Clair Area’s Outstanding Teen. She competed in private interview, physical fitness, talent and evening gown/onstage question and now advances to the state pageant to compete for Miss. Alabama’s Outstanding Teen. This pageant will be held in March, 2019 at Thompson High School. Mary Elizabeth was active in the drama department and choir while at OLV which helped form a solid foundation for her endeavors in pageants. She has continued to work with the drama department as an assistant to the music director. We wish you lots of luck Mary Elizabeth! Want to share this with an extended family member?
