Beyond the Classroom
UTSC's Department of Political Science launched our new Beyond the Classroom experiential learning program this year.
This program is an opportunity for first- and second- year students to participate in an internship during the summer session within a structured, supervised program that helps them acquire or refine important skills relevant to their degree. Our department sponsors each participating student with a $1000 stipend during the term they complete their internship. Our 15 students that participated this past year had internship opportunities within political campaigns, government agencies and non-profit organizations.
If you'd like to have a student intern at your office, please contact Marishka Pereira at pol-advisor@utsc.utoronto.ca
The Department of Political Science has relocated to UTSC's new Highland Hall building where our department it situated on the 5th floor of the South side of the building. Highland Hall brings together Social Sciences departments under one roof, including teaching and research in political science, sociology, anthropology, human geography, and critical development studies, facilitating collaboration and engagement among faculty and students. The concept for Highland takes inspiration from UTSC’s native topography and the dramatic qualities of John Andrew’s original campus architecture to create a bold new presence along Military Trail and to define a spatial gateway to The South Campus.
NEW FACULTY
Elizabeth's research focuses on international law and international relations and the governance of transnational corporations. She completed her PhD in Government at Cornell University, where her dissertation examined the criminalization of bribery in international business. It used legal research, archival analysis, and semi-structured interviews to examine and compare the operation of these laws in advanced industrial economies. Prior to her doctoral studies, she practiced law for several years, specializing in commercial litigation and internal investigations.
Andrew holds an LLB from Queen's and graduated in 2016 with a PhD in Political Science in Canadian Politics and Public Policy. Andrew’s research interests focus on Canadian federalism, intergovernmental relations and constitutional law. He is currently writing a dissertation on the stabilization of Canadian federalism post 1995. His publications include McDougall, Andrew (2012) The Challenges of Repatriating Aboriginal Cultural Property in Canada. Canadian Journal of Native Studies 32(2).
