Good day. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth blamed disgruntled Pentagon employees for leaking details of private Signal chats in which he disclosed information on sensitive military operations to his wife, brother and personal attorney.
Hegseth, who previously participated in a group chat regarding strikes in Yemen that inadvertently included a journalist, said that former employees were attempting to sabotage President Trump’s agenda. He is under investigation by the Pentagon’s inspector general over both chats.
The use of Signal to conduct official government business has come under intense scrutiny since the Atlantic first reported on the chat, which included its editor. Former national security officials have said that while the platforms are designed with security in mind, they aren’t foolproof, and should never be used to discuss confidential government matters.
