Top 100 Golf Courses "BiteSize" - November 2016

This month’s November BiteSize focuses on Australia and Vietnam, where we’ve re-ranked and extended our coverage for each of Australia’s six states and for ACT, where the nation’s capital is located. Vietnam’s golfing success story shows absolutely no signs of slowing down, either at national or regional level, so we’ve published, for the first time, a Vietnamese Top 20.

Further afield, our editor travelled to the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, which is set in the northeast corner of Italy, to see what’s on offer for visiting golfers. We also share Nicolas Iorio’s story following his tournament adventure to the Rio Olympic Golf Course.

And if that’s not enough, we doff our caps to Brian Ward, who recently completed a remarkable double-century that has been eighteen long years in the making.

Top 20 Golf Courses of Vietnam 2017

In this latest edition of our Vietnamese rankings, we’ve doubled the number of listed courses. We started with a Top 10 six years ago so this is the third revision of a chart that has now been expanded to a Top 20. Greg Norman’s Bluffs Ho Tram Strip entered our rankings at No.1 two years ago and it retains the top spot in our listings.

In this Australian regional report, we highlight two areas in the southeast of the country, namely the federal district of the Australian Capital Territory, which is enclaved within the state of New South Wales, and separate charts are maintained for each of these domains. Queensland and Victoria Best in State Rankings 2017

We’ve increased the number of courses in our Queensland rankings by 50% so we now have a Top 30 for this state. The Victoria chart has also had fifteen courses added to it so we maintain a Top 60 for a very strong golfing region where more than half the ranked courses are listed nationally, with the top three also occupying positions in our World Top 100.

Italy – Golf and More…

Located in the northeast corner of Italy, where it borders Austria to the north and Slovenia to the east, Friuli Venezia Giulia occupies a diverse landscape that stretches from the peaks of the Carnic and Julian Alps, through the foothills and plains of Friuli and the Karst, to the lagoons of Marano and Grado on the shoreline of the Adriatic Sea. It’s a district that can trace the origins of the Roman ruins at Aquileia back to 181 BC…

Brian Ward - The Double Century

No golfer wants to card a century, let alone a double-century for their round. A three-figure number on the scorecard represents a bad day at the golfing office, but Brian Ward was overjoyed to achieve a remarkable double-century at Hankley Common Golf Club last month, where he put the final tick in the box and competed playing both the GB&I and England Top 100 lists.
