Club Respect - Pass it on

AUGUST NEWSLETTER 2021

Hello friends,

Not a lot of community sport is being played around the country at the moment, with winter season sports rightly concerned that their seasons have come to anti-climatic end.

Club conversations can be tough, especially in club committee meetings and online chat platforms, where differing opinions about the lockdown can be divisive. Club leaders are leading with respect, even with people they strongly disagree with, and giving themselves the best chance of moving the club forward together.

Our Sport at the crossroads series, written by Patrick Skene, explores how different sports codes are tackling the abuse of officials. Following on from Part 1 (Football), this month we shine the spotlight on Part 2 (Rugby League).

What can clubs and Associations do when the behaviour of a small group of players and spectators ruins it, and makes it unsafe, for others? Peter Robinson responded to a question submitted to our Panel of Expertise platform, likening the conversation with club officials as "shining a spotlight of this area of their club in a safe and non-shaming way". You can read the de-identified question and response here: Support the club and challenge the behaviour.

Regards,
Tarik Bayrakli
Manager, Club Respect
