National Indigenous Peoples' Day was June 21 and the issue contains a message from Brad Anderson, Corporate Director, Aboriginal Health; tips for effective allies; why terminology matters; and information on Interior First Nations and Metis communities. Interior Health and Community Partner UpdatesUnattached patients can now be referred to the SHWCThe Kamloops Seniors Health and Wellness Centre provides a compassionate, interdisciplinary, client-centred approach to optimize the health of seniors with moderate to significant medical complexities and frailty. Patients receive a comprehensive assessment, short term treatment interventions and recommendations, and transitional services to community programs as appropriate. Their updated referral form is on Pathways. BC Provincial Academic DetailingThe BC Provincial Academic Detailing (PAD) service is a free Continuing Medical Education (CME) service for Family Practice physicians. There is a new Kamloops-based PAD pharmacist, Nancy Dyck, available to provide this service. The current topic is “Hypertension in Older Adults: Blood Pressure Goals and Medication Choices.” The next topic, “First Line Drugs in Neuropathic Pain”, is currently under development.Please connect directly with Nancy at Nancy.dyck@interiorhealth.ca to arrange a session. BCCSU Safety BulletinOne year ago, the Division shared information from Dr. Leslie Lappalainen, Medical Lead for Addiction Medicine, regarding upcoming changes to the methadone program as well as some new addiction medicine training opportunities. That information is being re-circulated as a reminder that withdrawal management as a standalone treatment for opioid use disorder should be avoided. Kamloops Y Programs to Help YouthKamloops YMCA-YWCA has three programs to help young adults manage stress, worries and anxiety. Through these programs, young people will have the chance learn strategies to manage anxiety through evidence-based programming led by trained mental health professionals. The programs are:
