For the Record…

Caroline Annesley - Senior Records Officer

The Records Team is an integral part of Strathfield Council. You’ll find me carrying out a range of duties from registering incoming email in our system, training staff in the records-keeping process, developing and implementing Records-related projects. At times work is challenging, but that’s part of the appeal of my role, the fact that it’s always evolving, unpredictable and rewarding.

I really feel a sense of accomplishment when I know that I’ve helped staff gain the skills and confidence to capture and record documents and correspondence received at Council. By doing this, I know documents will be available to assist staff to carry out their duties.

Recycling Week

Recycling Week a Big Success!

Four schools participated in Council’s recycling week, with over 100 students having fun learning about recycling and waste management. A very big thank you to the schools who also donated 130kg of clothing to people in need - that’s equivalent to clothing 130 people or 10 rugby league teams!

Melba Strathfield Hoyts Cinema

The Strathfield area had a number of theatres built in the late 1920s and early 1930s including the Melba, Enfield Savoy and Homebush Theatre, as well as the Astor and Palatial in nearby Burwood. The Melba Theatre was built circa 1921 and was demolished in 1969, as the popularity of cinemas declined due to the growth of television audiences in the 1950s.
