Entrepreneurs' Relief Changes

Following the introduction of new qualifying criteria for entrepreneurs' relief, HMRC has published amended provisions relating to the “personal company” tests. From 29 October 2018, to qualify as a “personal company” the following criteria must be met by the claimant: 

• Own at least 5% shareholding in a trading company; and
• By virtue of that holding:
  - Exercise at least 5% voting rights in a trading company 
  - Is beneficially entitled to at least 5% of profits available for distribution and
  - Is beneficially entitled to at least 5% of the assets of the company available for distribution on winding up.

Even for those who previously benefited, we would strongly advise you to review your shareholding of your personal company to ensure it will still qualify. Read more

Increase in pension auto enrolment contributions

The minimum amounts to be paid into employee’s workplace pensions is set to increase from 6 April 2019, and employers are responsible for making sure these increases are implemented and for advising their employees of these changes. Read more
