Happy Harbour Fun DayBring the kids and come learn what’s happening in Tauranga Moana at the Happy Harbour Fun Day, Sunday March 3rd at Memorial Park, Tauranga.
Local Wild Food Challenge WhakatāneMahy Reserve, 5 Pohutukawa Avenue, Ohope, Whakatane, Bay of Plenty The challenge is to get outside and hunt, gather, forage, barter or fish for local wild food and create a dish of your choice, then write a story about it. If you are from Whakatāne, you will know that hunting, fishing and gathering is a way of life for us. Our region is brimming with wild food and natural abundance, which makes it perfect to hold an event with the purpose of creating an awareness of precious natural resources and the environment. The challenge will be held at Mahy Reserve in Ōhope, where spectators and supporters will enjoy a day of cooking demonstrations, local food stalls, entertainment and activities such as kite-making, while the competitors create their own unique wild food dishes. Te Puke District Worm Composting WorkshopPaengaroa Hall, 4 Old Coach Rd, Paengaroa 3189, Te Puke, Bay of Plenty This workshop is perfect for worm farm beginners with little or no experience, or for those who would like a refresher. At the end of the workshop you’ll receive your very own Vermihut worm farm bin, tiger worms plus lime and compost (valued at $255), so you can get started straight away. Note: For Western Bay Residents Only. DoC Volunteer Days in RotoruaAs well as helping out DOC rangers and community groups, you'll also get to learn about the history of the project area, go on a walk, or even catch a glimpse of some of the amazing wildlife. For 2018 dates, times and locations, visit the DoC website Te Puke A&P 112th Lifestyle ShowFebruary 10th | Te Puke Showgrounds, Te Puke, Bay of Plenty – free event The Te Puke A&P Show is an annual event organized by volunteers for a fun, family day. Entertainment includes lawn mower racing, truck & tractor pulling competition, sheep racing, horse & pony rides, classic car/trike & jag club display along the with Bay of Plenty Young Fruit Grower of the Year Competition. There is a variety of trade sites, food and refreshments.

TUIA Te Here Tangata – Maori Youth Leadership Opportunity in TaurangaTauranga City Council will once again take part in TUIA Te Here Tangata a Māori youth, leadership programme. TUIA is an intentional, long term, intergenerational approach to develop and enhance the way in which rangatahi Māori contribute to their communities. The programme builds a national network of support for rangatahi and local mentoring from Mayors and Council staff to help them serve the community. We are looking for a young person, aged between 18 – 25, who is actively involved in the community and is wanting to grow as a leader. The programme includes five three day wānanga that are culturally grounded and practically focused. All costs associated with travel, accommodation and food is covered and the rangatahi needs to make themselves available. Along with this the TUIA representative will also meet regularly with Mayor Brownless and have the opportunity to participate other Council and civic related events that best fit their development as a community leader. To find out more, click here NatureWatch NZNatureWatch NZ provides an online community for nature watchers to record, share, identify and comment on species observations throughout New Zealand. Users can engage with other nature watchers and learn about New Zealand animals, plants, and fungi. Not only can you add your observations, but you can add places, projects, common names of species, new links about species, and more! Enviroschools students around the country are signing up to create a picture of their local flora and fauna. There's an iPad and phone app that's easy to use.
