Council Elects a New Deputy Mayor

Strathfield Council is pleased to announce that at its meeting on Tuesday night, Councillor Karen Pensabene was elected Deputy Mayor. Council congratulates Deputy Mayor Pensabene and wishes her the best for this term.

Council would also like to thank the outgoing Deputy Mayor, Cr Matthew Blackmore, for his dedicated service to the community.

White Balloon Day

Protecting kids is everyone’s job! Council is taking a stand towards protecting children and invites the local community to get involved in White Balloon Day this year on Friday 11 September.

Snow in Strathfield

As we look forward to the warmer weather of Spring, spare a thought for the residents of Strathfield in 1919 when on 8 September, there were reports of a light fall of snow! This unusual event was reported as far away as Cairns. Snow in Sydney is rare, although there were also anecdotal reports of snowfall in early September 1905. Newspapers reported that the temperature at midday on 6 September was just over 4 degree Celsius. A much heavier fall was reported on 28 June 1836 when the newspapers stated that the snow was almost an inch deep.
