Throwback ThursdaySnow in StrathfieldAs we look forward to the warmer weather of Spring, spare a thought for the residents of Strathfield in 1919 when on 8 September, there were reports of a light fall of snow! This unusual event was reported as far away as Cairns. Snow in Sydney is rare, although there were also anecdotal reports of snowfall in early September 1905. Newspapers reported that the temperature at midday on 6 September was just over 4 degree Celsius. A much heavier fall was reported on 28 June 1836 when the newspapers stated that the snow was almost an inch deep. |
