October Holidays Swim School Crash CourseThis crash course is great for fast-tracking the aquatic skills of students by refining their swimming technique and water safety skills. Classes will run over 4 or 5 consecutive days between 8am to 12pm. Book a CourtWe are excited that we are very close to launching Book a Court Tennis Australia’s online tennis court booking system across four of Council’s tennis sites. Take this eye-opening two hour walking tour to unearth the stories behind Parramatta’s hidden lanes, artworks and monuments, all while discovering the unique story of Parramatta’s heritage. Free Fitness Camps in Sturt Park, TelopeaLive Life Get Active is launching free weekly fitness camps in Sturt Park, Telopea! Classes began on Thursday 13 August and will run for 40 weeks over the next year. Sessions start at 12:30pm and run for 45 minutes each Monday to Friday. Mega Bike DayBicycle NSW is hosting a Bike Day on 22 September at Sydney Olympic Park! Brush up on your riding skills, teach your children to ride, learn how to maintain your bike, or learn about the cycling infrastructure around Olympic Park! Great for the whole family, activities are free but registrations are required. Active Kids VoucherDon't forget that parents can now claim two $100 Active Kids vouchers for each school-enrolled child annually! Voucher one can be used all year and voucher two can be used July to December. The second voucher can be claimed immediately after the first voucher. The vouchers can be used to help cover costs towards membership and registration fees for sport and recreation. North Rocks Park LightsAs part of the North Rocks Master Plan the sports fields have undergone a major lighting upgrade with six new metal LED lighting poles! These new lights mean an improved experience for the Soccer Club, players and spectators! See below for more about the North Rocks Master Plan. Sturt and Acacia Park UpgradeSturt and Acacia parks in Telopea are being upgraded! Council is now using the input we received from the community to inform the concept designs. Sydney Seniors and Disability ExpoThe Expo, held on 13 - 14 September, will link seniors and people with disability with hundreds of product and service providers as well as leisure, lifestyle and technology options for all. Wentworth Point Community Centre and LibraryCity of Parramatta Council is excited to confirm that the new Wentworth Point Community Centre and Library (WPCCL) will open to the public in December 2019. The WPCCL will offer a range of amazing benefits and resources for residents and businesses. Residents will soon be able to enjoy contemporary library services in their local area as well as 24 hr book vending machine, Creative Studios, Art Gallery, Café, and other spaces available for hire such as Co-working space, Music Practice room, Function rooms, Dance room and Meeting rooms. Free Support resources for sports clubs and their volunteersVolunteers of sports clubs in the City of Parramatta have been given FREE access to hundreds of support resources in the form of Club Spot membership. Club Spot membership includes templates, videos, articles and checklists on topics vitally important to clubs and their volunteers. Topics such as, “How to run an AGM”, “How to write a sponsorship proposal” and “How to win grant funding” just to name a few. Often club volunteers are thrown into jobs such as President, Secretary of Treasurer with little of no training and no support. The City of Parramatta has invested in providing Club Spot membership for FREE to give volunteers the support they need to undertake these roles with confidence.
