Behind the Scenes of our
Master's Programme

Now in week 10 of our Master of Applied Practice - Technological Futures (time flies!) our candidates are ironing out the kinks of their project plan and gearing up for implementation.

As our February cohort moves onto this next stage and we gear up for our June intake, we're running a new weekly newsletter series to give you a behind the scenes look at what goes on at Tech Futures Lab through some of our candidates. Stay tuned for more!

Meet Paula

Our first person enrolled for 2017, Paula is the definition of a first-mover. An entrepreneur at heart and at a point in her life when she was ready to start her own venture, Paula stumbled upon our programme when she was considering different options.

Having spent many years working in the not-for-profit sector and living in the likes of South America, she was now back in New Zealand, a Mum to a newly five year old girl, and unsure what her next step was.

“I looked at MBA programmes but they felt too theoretical, too much like traditional education. I had a background in the digital arena, I was interested in emerging and disruptive technologies, [and] I needed the rigor and structure to work through my ideas,” she says.

“This came at exactly the right time,” Paula says of the Tech Futures Lab Master's programme. “It was very serendipitous.”

“Every week has had something that’s been really valuable,” Paula says. “It covers the areas I’m interested in and puts me in contact with people in these spaces right now – in a practical aspect and connected to New Zealand and globally.”

She says, "This is for anyone who's contemplating a change of career or looking to start a business - even if it's not tech-focused, well, everything's tech-focused!"

Paula says the programme is about 'aggregation and curation' of knowledge and skills.

"It has a really applied and practical nature. It’s a living, breathing thing," she says.
