What a Year 2018 Has Been...
Now that 2018 is approaching its end, I can share with you that this was a turbulent year in the Hannah household, a mix of good and difficult times. A family member was diagnosed with cancer, and as too many of you know, that is pretty all-consuming. I actually quit writing for several months to focus on the day-to-day challenges of treatment. Through it all, as so often happens in such times, we were reminded of what really matters in life --- love, health, gratitude, family. We are incredibly grateful that a great team of doctors and friends and family all came together to help us through the process, and a recent "cancer-free" PET scan gave us all plenty to cheer about last week. And in the midst of all of that, there was so much good news. My fabulous readers --- those who have been on my team for years and many newbies, too --- embraced The Great Alone with gusto. I cannot express to you all how thankful I am for your support and enthusiasm. It means the world to me. Thanks to you, The Great Alone was read by millions.

Celebrating the Holidays with
Author Friends
We had our usual Seattle authors Christmas party in December. We have been gathering together for good cheer, support, friendship and laughter for almost 30 years. Another thing to be grateful for: girl friends. What would we do without them?
Back row, left to right: Katherine Stone, Megan Chance, me, Stella Cameron, Jill Barnett and Jayne Ann Krentz Front row, left to right: Christina Dodd, Debbie Macomber (who headed to a Seahawks game right after our party) and Susan Anderson.
Kauai Writer's Conference
I didn't do much traveling this year, but I was fortunate enough to spend a little time in my happy place --- Hawaii. I attended the Kauai Writers Conference and met some fabulous writers, both published and unpublished, and even a few of my idols. Here's a picture of me with Alice Hoffman and Christina Baker Kline.
My House is Decked Out for
the Holidays
I know you're interested in what's next for me, writing-wise. I should have news in the next few months. I'm a little superstitious about saying too much, but don't think I'm not writing. I'm back in the saddle and working hard. Stay tuned. Also, a small TV tidbit. It looks like my beloved novel, Firefly Lane, may be coming to TV next year. Hopefully I'll have pictures from the set soon.
