Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing final master plan released The Victorian Government has released the final master plan for the Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing. The detailed plan outlines the proposed development of the 57 kilometre trek, which expands and develops the existing 37 kilometre trail. The new trek has been designed as a five-day, four-night hiking experience that traverses the Great Dividing Range, from Falls Creek to Mt Hotham. The crossing is one of four walks in the Walk Victoria’s Icons portfolio, which includes the Great Ocean Walk, the Grampians Peaks Trail and the Coastal Wilderness Walk. It will offer opportunities for visitors to discover and learn about the natural and cultural values of the Alps, and features: · New and environmentally friendly hiker camps · Updates and improvements to existing trails · Low-impact huts tailored for walkers who prefer a roof over their head · Educational experiences through guided tours and interpretive signage · World-class trail infrastructure constructed with environmentally sustainable materials and design · Increased visitation into the region, boosting overall tourism activity and regional dispersal of visitors · The creation of more than 200 jobs in construction, 99 of which will be regionally based, with another 130 full time jobs in the servicing sector The plan follows two years of consultation, in partnership with Tourism North East, Regional Development Victoria, Visit Victoria and the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources. The plan can be viewed on the Parks Victoria website, here: http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks/alpine-national-park/plans-and-projects/falls-to-hotham-alpine-crossing-master-plan New playground in Davenport area is well under way Local and guest families will soon be thrilled to see the new Davenport playground, which is located at Little Higgi Park at the Davenport and Ash Drive intersection; also known as known as the old Tennis Court Site. Works started in early April on the playground, which will feature interactive sculptures, swings, and climbing structures. Cypress Pine was used to complement the existing tracks and trails elements. The Davenport area of Mt Hotham is recognised as a family-friendly area with predominantly lodge and club type accommodation, but it has lacked free outdoor activities for our younger guests. The playground was given the thumbs up by the majority of people who responded to MHARMB’s survey in the October 2017 issue of Community News. When selecting the site, consideration was given to winter operations given the limited space available and the future installation of other activities following the 2018 winter. “True Spirit of Alpine Australia” marketing campaign earns third award MHARMB’s 2017 ‘Spirit of Alpine Australia’ rebranding campaign recently picked up its third industry award! In 2017, the ‘True Spirit of Alpine Australia’ campaign picked up the Best Government Agency category at the Australasian Leisure Management Communication and Marketing Awards, then was awarded Gold in Destination Marketing at the 2017 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards. Now, Mt Hotham Resort Management Board has just added to the collection of awards with Mumbrella’s Travel Marketing Award for Best Breakthrough Destination of 2017. This collaboration between business operators of Mt Hotham and MHARMB has connected with locals and tourists alike. The campaign performed beyond expectations in its first year in both reach and engagement and Mt Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board are hoping to extend on this for the upcoming Winter season. |
