NOTICES

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY

If your child is absent please contact the school the same day with the reason for the absence.

.          For absences between 1 – 3 days: a daily telephone call or an e-mail to the school: attendance@school21.org.uk / htayfur@school21.org.uk  from parents/carers by 8:30am stating student’s name, class, year and reason for your child's absence  (please only use your child's initials in the subject heading of any email).

·         For absences between 4 – 5 days we will require letter or proof of medication with an explanation on or before the child’s return to school.

·         For absences of 5 days and over parents must provide written medical evidence i.e a prescription or appointment letter.

We will inform you if your child's absence or lateness causes concern and will work with you to find a way of improving your child's attendance. If you would like to discuss your child’s attendance / punctuality or have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the attendance officer at the school via the above email address.

*Punctuality
It is important that your child attends school on time- Primary, Middle and Secondary (8:30am). A pupil arriving late will disrupt not only his/her learning but also that of others.

In responding to lateness, we will take into account individual circumstances in each case. It may be that late arrival stems from unavoidable circumstances, however, we will seek an early meeting with parents where lateness is an issue and circumstances  will be discussed.

*Good Habits -Regular attendance including punctuality helps your child become reliable and organised. Good attendance and punctuality is vital if all pupils are to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them.

*Meetings- If parents would like to arrange a meeting with a member of staff, please email them directly to arrange this.  The school office does not have access to staff diaries, but can provide parents with the email address of the member of staff they would like to get in touch with.  We cannot arrange spontaneous meetings with staff as they follow a daily timetable, have scheduled meetings to attend and may be required to cover lessons.

*Water bottles in school - Please make sure that your child has a water (filled only with water) bottle in school.

*Walking Home Alone - If your child walks home alone, please make sure that they use a safe, well lit and busy route. They should not be walking through the park alone and if possible, walk home with a friend. Below is a link to the NSPCC website with more information.

https://www.nspcc.org.uk/services-and-resources/research-and-resources/2015/out-alone/

*School Uniform - Children must always come into school with correct full school uniform which includes tie and black shoes (black trainers are not acceptable). If your child comes to school in the incorrect uniform parents will be notified.  Please ensure that your child has the correct School21 PE Kit on PE days.

*Safe Parking - We are disappointed to say that despite several notices, some of our parents are still not following the "no parking" yellow zig-zag signs outside the school premises.  We are now in the process of working with the local authority to ensure that parking laws are adhered to.  Parking illegally causes a health and safety hazard for our parents and especially our children.  Please keep them safe!

*Scooters - Children (and parents/carers) MUST NOT ride scooters on school premises.  This poses a threat for themselves and for parents and children in the area.

*Equipment - Parents please ensure your child comes into school with all the equipment and food they will need for the day.  The front office will not be responsible for taking things to classroom as this is disruptive to children's learning.

*Celebration - Please ensure birthday/celebration cakes that you wish to share with your child's class are given to your child's class teacher in the morning when you drop them off and is sliced, completely nut free (no traces) and suitable for vegetarians.  We will not accept any cakes/treats that do not meet this criteria.  Please consider providing plates/tissues (cup-cakes are always the neatest to share!).  Thank you for your co-operation with regards to all notices.

Astronomical!

This week Parks and Newton class went on an adventure to the moon! At the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, children had the chance to imagine what a real trip to the moon would be like. Through role play, song and dance, they explored the different ways their body would move when there is less gravity on the moon and imagined what it would be like to be in a rocket as it takes off! They also had a chance to see some of the historical astronomical equipment and an exhibition of space photography. De Coubertin class can't wait for their turn in March! Thanks again to all the parent helpers who accompanied us and helped make the trip a great success.

Quick Maths

This week Year 3 have been learning to multiply 2-digit numbers by 2, 3, 4 and 5. We represented the equations with dienes to help our understanding and partitioned the 2-digit numbers into tens and ones. We then counted up our total.

There are no After School Clubs on:

The week commencing Monday 12th February - Half Term
The week commencing Monday 5th March - Parents Evening Week

Chabs Kids UK Fashion Show

Amber, one of our Year 3 Pupils, has been selected to catwalk in a fashion show where over 400 children hundred applied and only 30 were selected! Even more exciting is that fact that the show is being hosted at School 21 on Saturday 10th February 2018!  The event is organised by Cancel Cancer Africa.  They raise cancer awareness by educating the rural villages in Africa about the early signs and symptoms of cancer.  Proceeds from ticket sales will go to this great cause.  Please click on the picture above to purchase your ticket!  We done Amber!  We love celebrating the achievements of our pupils inside and outside school, so please let Mrs Drummond know if you have some achievements to share with us!

How can we be professional online?

As part of Safer Internet Day, the children of Year 4 have been exploring what to do in a variety of different online scenarios. Through discussion, research and debate, the children created a set of guidelines on how to be digitally professional.

Young Voices 2018

The Y3, 4 and 5 Young Voices choir had a fantastic Friday night last week performing at the 2018 Young Voices concert at the O2! We sang in a choir of 7,705 children to a packed out audience. The stadium was a sea of lights and beautiful voices as we sang Hakuna Matata and Africa as well as I’m Yours and the Cartoon Medley. We’ve already signed up for next year’s event!

Young Artists

This week the time came to celebrate all the brilliant artists who entered The Young Art Competition- a National Creative competition where children ALL over the country entered pieces on the theme of "Feelings and Emotions". Our children explored a wonderful variety of themes and articulated their thoughts behind their artwork so articulately and eloquently. Congratulations to all the children who entered, we raised over £100 for Cancer Research! Congratulations also to Flavia from Kandinsky, Akshaya from Seacole and Davi from Shakespeare who won top prizes!
