Clever Ideas For Off-Grid 'Tiny Cabin' Accommodation

In Tasmania’s booming tourism industry, many accommodation operators are looking for more niche markets to add value to their product offering and position themselves more uniquely in the marketplace. One such niche market is the rapidly growing demand for off-grid 'tiny cabins' nestled in more remote locations. With a vast array of untouched wilderness destinations and stunning unpopulated coastlines, Tassie is the perfect place to set up these types of compact accomodation stays, and Tasbuilt specialises in designing/constructing these boutique projects across the island.

Tasmania's Tourism Development Loan Scheme

Exciting news for current Tassie tourism operators, and those interested in entering the industry - perhaps by building off-grid cabin accommodation?

The Tasmanian Government has just launched the 'Tourism Development Loan Scheme', which provides loans between $50,000 - $2million to operators to help them rebuild, improve and develop tourism products/experiences across the state. The aim of this scheme is to support Tassie's position as a sought-after, leading Australia destination as the economy re-builds from COVID-19 and travel soon returns to normal. Applications for this scheme are NOW OPEN, and will remain open until 23 August 2022 (or until funding is exhausted).

'Green' Features to Make Your Building More Eco-Friendly

There was a time not too long ago when commercial buildings were cold, draughty, dingy, and dark. They were featureless, poorly thought-out buildings where people sat in pigeon-holed spaces, with no consideration of the surrounding elements, climate, or impacts on the environment. But this is no longer the case! Today’s commercial buildings, especially the modular buildings that Tasbuilt Commercial designs and constructs, are modern, bright, sustainable spaces focused not only on employee satisfaction/motivation but on using smart design to help save both money and our precious planet.

Check out 4 key features Tasbuilt incorporates to make modular, commercial buildings far eco-friendlier and more cost-efficient!

Ablution & Amenities Blocks

Tasbuilt Commercial specialises in the design and construction of ablution and amenities blocks for a range of different businesses and sites. These buildings are ideal for schools, councils, sporting facilities, or large-scale work sites where these facilities are required and/or desired by patrons and staff.

Ablution and amenities buildings can be stand-alone or incorporated into a larger project. At Tasbuilt we have crafted a range of popular designs and floor plans for these types of projects (see example below), or we can completely custom-design blocks to suit your existing buildings and unique business requirements.

Some of the key things we consider when designing ablution and amenities blocks are...

1. Number of users – A good guide is 1 toilet per 5 people, but this can vary depending on whether the block's use is likely to be concentrated in a short time or spread out across several hours.

2. Availability of services – Is there sewerage, water and power available to the block? If services are not nearby we recommend considering solar powered lighting, rain water tanks, and sewerage disposal solutions such as a holding tank or a septic system.

3. Durability – If your block is at an industrial or agricultural worksite, use practical, hardy finishes such as steel cladding and sheet vinyl flooring to cope with the 'heavy use' and minimal maintenance.

4. Storage – Built-in storage space is often overlooked, but invaluable in these compact buildings.
