Recently, Prof. David Walker, Neurosurgeon, along with our, Neurosurgical Nurse Practitioner, Vivien Biggs, performed a unique procedure called an Awake Craniotomy for Brain Tumour Removal.
The patient, Jared Graves, 36 year old male, was awake during the procedure so that his movement in his left hand could be assessed whilst the tumour near the motor cortex on the right side of the brain was being removed. The aim of the procedure is to reduce the risk of weakness postsurgery. The operation went well and took a little over 2 hours.
Prof David Walker has a special clinical interest in brain tumours and is actively involved in conducting research to help find a cure for this disease. To read further case studies from Prof. Walker, click here to visit our website.
