Rural Kenya's bountiful future

The development of a Rural Center for Entrepreneurship in Kenya is underway. The first phase of funding will allow for the purchase of the land to develop a sustainably designed campus that will train and empower youth and women to thrive without needing to migrate to the slums of Nairobi to seek employment. The rural center will teach innovative agricultural technologies, renewable energy, water quality, food safety and culinary skills.

The rural Kenyan center will also assist small crop women farmers to increase their yields.

A collaborative approach to freedom

Our Leaders of Social Justice are determined to "get upstream" and attack the issue of restavek, child slavery, at its roots. They are collaborating with multiple Haitian partners to identify the most critical pillars that have sustained the custom of child slavery. During their next trip to Haiti, Atema and Wendy will lead multiple focus groups with diverse community leaders including former child slaves to collaboratively develop multi-faceted strategies to bring an end to restavek practice.

The empowerment of former restaveks and their success as entrepreneurs proves that transformation and success are possible to those whom have yet to break free from servitude.

Greener pastures and happy partners

Several weeks ago we announced the first phase of the goat farm funding was raised. We are happy to report that our remarkable Haitian partner, MPP, established 40 years ago, received the first installment of goat farm loan and executed the expansion immediately, fencing the new pastures and building the new barn for the arrival of 715 new goats.

The core goal of the Haitian goat farm is to eliminate poverty which drives child servitude and to provide sustainable, affordable food supply to avoid malnutrition.

Our work and collaboration with partners, donors and investors is a continued force of strength for Chefs4Kids, true to our Uwezowetu spirit. Everything we do is for kids and our programs continue to transform based on needs and collaborative opportunities for transformative success.
