Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, families and friends of the devastating Beirut explosion. Council has set up an online condolence page and invites the local community to express their sympathies.

Keep Your Distance

Stop the spread by reducing close physical contact and staying 1.5 metres away from others. NSW residents are now encouraged to use masks in indoor settings where physical distancing is hard to maintain, such as on public transport, supermarkets and places of worship.

Throwback Thursday

 

The Art of Ebenezer Gostelow
(1866 – 1944)

Artist Ebenezer Gostelow was a NSW country school teacher, later becoming headmaster in Broken Hill. When The Barrier Field Naturalists Club held a display of wildflowers there in 1920, they also featured 150 botanical paintings by Gostelow. With no formal training he went on to paint all of Australia’s recorded bird species, borrowing specimens from the Australian Museum. During the 1920s he moved to Sydney and became headmaster of Strathfield South Public School. This lovely painting of Eucalyptus Longifolia (Woolly Butt), painted in Strathfield, is from his series of the Flora of Coastal NSW.
