With the easing of restrictions, SLSNSW has updated key sections of our Coronavirus webpage with new advice and resources. We’ve also made available templates for COVID Safe Plans that clubs can easily adopt or tailor for themselves.

End of Strange and Tragic Season for Surf Lifesavers 

Despite the NSW bushfire crisis reducing summer beach attendance and the COVID-19 pandemic bringing an early end to the 2019/20 patrol season, there were a higher than average number of coastal drownings during one of the most unusual patrol seasons on record.

Blackroll Activation and Recovery Series

The BLACKROLL and Surf Life Saving NSW Activation and Recovery Series is here to teach surf lifesavers the benefits of rolling and trigger work using rollers, balls and bands. This seven-part series will provide exercises for each of our Surf Life Saving areas including; IRBs, Surf Boats, Pool Rescue, Water Athletes, Beachies, Nippers and Rescue Ready Lifesavers. Join us each Tuesday as we giveaway a BLACKROLL pack via SLSNSW Instagram.

Applications Closing Soon for $14 Million Crown Reserves Improvement Fund

Applications for the 2020-21 Crown Reserves Improvement Fund (CRIF) close 5pm Fri 10 July. The CRIF Program supports Crown land managers and users by providing funding for repairs and maintenance projects, pest and weed control, new recreational infrastructure or environmental initiatives. The Grant Seeking Unit is available to assist with writing and submitting an application, their contact details are available on our website.

2020 SLSNSW Awards of Excellence

The 2019/20 season was one we’ll never forget. From fires and floods through to a global pandemic, NSW lifesavers and lifeguards continued to display unwavering commitment to protecting and saving lives along our coastline.

On Saturday 29 August we’ll be celebrating all of the incredible efforts of our lifesavers and lifeguards LIVE on our Facebook page for the 2020 SLSNSW Awards of Excellence.

2020 Sharkskin NSW IRB Events

The Coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on the 2020 IRB season. Whilst restrictions continue to change and relax, the Surf Sports team has been planning ways to deliver a Sharkskin Premiership Round and the State Championships. There is still no clarity to enable confirmation of the dates, locations or the likelihood of the event proceeding, however, we are currently working towards dates based on the feedback received at the recent IRB Coach Team Managers Forum.

Envirobank Off Peak Season Roster

With the easing of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, Envirobank has resumed collections with the commencement of their off-peak season roster from 1st June 2020. The new roster is available on the SLSNSW website. If you require an urgent collection or have any questions please contact Carley via email at ctomkinson@envirobank.com.au or phone 0499 221 521.

Grant funding is an ideal way to obtain equipment, infrastructure or program funding for your club. In support of SLSCs in NSW, SLSNSW provides a professional grant service at no fee to NSW SLSCs through Surf Life Saving Foundation’s Grant Seeking Unit (GSU). The GSU is a national grant research and writing support unit for SLS entities across Australia.

Australian Lifeguard Service NSW - Recruitment Now Open!

With over 330 positions available across 90 locations, the ALS is encouraging surf lifesavers to apply as a means of offering local employment, building stronger relationships with clubs and providing opportunities for club members to develop leadership and lifesaving skills as:

  • Lifeguard Supervisors
  • Season Staff
  • Casual Staff.

Returning 2019/20 lifeguards must reapply online with their user number and password. To ensure your application is registered please follow the instructions on the Become a Lifeguard page of the Australian Lifeguard Service NSW website.
