April 21, 2022

Dear member,

As we weather through the cold breeze hitting Edmonton these past few days, our team is gearing up to be hosting one of our first major in-person events since the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic. As announced in our last newsletter, we will be hosting our first “Health Innovators’ Meetup” on Thursday, May 12th at 4 pm at our office space at Enterprise Square. With our topic for the panel, “The power of community - and what it means for health innovation” we wanted to rope in some of the community leaders who have been the voices of change in the health innovation ecosystem. It is our pleasure to have Zachary Storms (Founder, Startup TNT), Andrew MacIsaac (CEO, Applied Pharmaceutical Innovation), Gail Powley (President, Technology Alberta) as our panellists and Catherine Warren (CEO, Innovate Edmonton) as our guest moderator for the first-ever Health Innovator’s Meetup. Please join us in this event as it is about celebrating you, the community and engaging in intellectual discourses on issues that could define our health innovation ecosystem while networking with those peers you haven’t seen outside of that zoom background. You will find the link to register for the meetup below.

Once again, we thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter and sending us your wonderful feedback, we love reading through each one of them and they give us the encouragement to keep curating these newsletters for you, our community. Please forward the digest to your network to support the momentum in health innovation across Alberta.

1. What does health innovation/ innovation in health mean to you?

Just as special as they are to me, they could convey a variety of concepts depending on the person. To me, in particular, they mean actions of shedding light on our current understanding of healthcare through rigorous analysis, data collection, and association of knowledge, leading to the generation of higher levels of perspectives and insights on related subjects. Ultimately, through health innovation, researchers and companies will create useful pieces of knowledge to be translated into meaningful, physical, and applicable inventions

2. In your opinion, what is the state of the health innovation ecosystem in Alberta, Canada and globally?

They are contributing a significant amount of pioneering work as part of the worldwide movement that facilitates the formation of linkages between healthcare researchers and practitioners with varying expertise and experience. In other words, they are becoming progressively essential in initiating and making health innovation possible.

3. In your opinion, what is the purpose of the Health Innovation Hub?

I firmly believe that the Health Innovation Hub finds its aim in contributing to the foundation of a shareable knowledge and technology database, interconnecting like-minded innovators and entrepreneurs and gathering them toward a common goal of bettering the health of us, our children, and future generations.

4. How would you describe yourself in one sentence?

I am a passionate researcher that pursues the common good of society, through endeavouring to promote conceptual and technological progress in the healthcare industry and related fields.

5. What is the one thing that you are most excited about right now?

I must admit that I am excited to further my involvement in the initiative of like-minded individuals to improve the health of our society. Additionally, sharing and exchange of knowledge and expertise will open a new era of innovation that will foster everyone’s learning curve and that of society.
