A personally inscribed book contest, tour dates, a new discussion guide for book groups and lots more! No images? Click here Greetings! I hope your holidays were wonderful. I spent time in Colorado with my family. The snow was beautiful, we played games, some of us skied (not me!), and we had lots of wonderful meals together. Here I am with my son’s dog, Kobe. Tour & Appearance NewsI’m about to set out on my book tour for the paperback release of The Island of Sea Women, so in this letter I have news about the tour, a special contest to celebrate the paperback publication, fun decorating and food ideas for book clubs, some personal news, which makes me very happy and proud, and a super neat podcast. I hope you’ll read to the end so you don’t miss a thing. The paperback of The Island of Sea Women comes out on March 10th. I’ll be doing events in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York and Texas. I sure hope to see some of you out on the road. It's Contest Time!To celebrate the paperback of The Island of Sea Women, I am giving away five personally inscribed copies. The contest is open from Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 12:00pm ET until Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 11:59pm ET. For Book Clubs...Something New!As part of the excitement around the upcoming book tour, we’ve updated the book club offerings for The Island of Sea Women. I now have a beautifully designed book club guide complete with discussion questions, ideas for how to enhance your book club, and a Q&A with me about the book. In Other News...I’ve worked hard to improve my writing with each book, dig deeper to the truth of emotions, and celebrate the amazing things that women have accomplished but have not always been appreciated. It’s truly thrilling, humbling and always surprising to see that work acknowledged. On March 13, I’ll be receiving the Founder’s Award at the Authors Table Dinner from the Tucson Festival of Books. The Founders Award, established in 2011, honors “literary achievement that has captivated readers’ imaginations and whose body of work is an inspiration to readers, writers, and booklovers.” Past recipients of this award include Elmore Leonard, Larry McMurtry, R.L. Stine, Richard Russo and Luis Alberto Urrea. Pretty amazing company! I’m so honored. Then, on April 25, the Broad Stage in Santa Monica will be honoring my husband and me for our 17-year dedication to the theater’s mission to present an eclectic mix of world-class and emerging artists on its stages — especially in the categories of opera, jazz and blues — for the benefit and enjoyment of Los Angeles and surrounding communities. I don’t expect anyone to come — it’s an expensive evening — but I thought I’d share the link so you can see how adorable my husband is and our commitment to educational and outreach programs in our community. When Life Takes a TurnOf course, not everything is perfect. The day after my husband had knee-replacement surgery, I sprained my calf. I’m a hobbling caregiver! We’re both slowly recovering, doing lots of rehab, and binge-watching like crazy. Book Clubs on Skype...I’m still speaking to book clubs on Skype. If you ever want me to join in, just write directly to me at Lisa@LisaSee.com. Remember to include the date, time and time zone you’re in. Linda Louie of the Bana Tea Company is still selling the Pu’er Tea Tasting Package for book clubs to use when they’re discussing The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane. As you may recall, she introduced me to Yoon-hee Kim, a Korean tea master, who designed a Korean Tea and Snack Tasting Package for book clubs reading The Island of Sea Women. For more information on the tea packages, visit the Bana Tea website: Pu'er Tea Tasting Package for The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane Korean Tea and Snack Tasting Package for The Island of Sea Women I always like to share photos that book clubs have sent me. Thanks to Blanca Sanchez for the top picture and Jennifer Tsang for the second one. I’m always amazed by the creative and fun decorations people put together for their meetings. An Interesting Article...As you know, I always like to include an article either related to my work or that has interested in me some way. This time it’s a podcast about actress Anna May Wong that I did with Mo Rocca for his "Mobituaries." If you’ve read On Gold Mountain, you know that she and my grandfather were good friends and that my dad used to drink and play poker with Anna May. While I’m not listed as a participant on the introduction page, Mo Rocca spent an entire day with me at my family’s Chinese antiques store talking about her. We had great fun. I hope you enjoy it. One More Thing...Last, I’ve been working on my next novel. As I write this, I’m getting close to completing the first draft, which is always an exciting moment. If I’m coming to your city on the book tour, please come out and say hi. If I’m not coming to your city, I hope you’ll follow my adventures on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, or we can visit between the pages of one of my books.
