Optolong L-eNhance and L-eXtreme filters - more on how filters help reduce light pollutionInstead of cutting out light pollution from various sources, these filters *let* in light from deep-sky objects. Optolong L-Quad Enhance Filter for 2" eyepieces - $330 Light pollution is a pain many astronomers are forced to live with! Last week we looked at the Optolong quad band filter which reduces light from common light pollution sources. This week, we'll take a deeper dive into the Optolong L-eNhance and L-eXtreme filters. Instead of keeping light pollution out, they only let through light around frequencies produced by different of types of nebulae. Have a squiz at the article at the link below. As we always say light pollution reduction filters of any kind are not a replacement for dark skies, but they do help. BINTEL has a wide range of options to assist - have a chat with us at any time about this or any other topic. Space News - Webb captures 19 face on spiral galaxies plus the upside-down Japanese Moon lander phones home!Images from two different JWST (James Webb Space Telescopes) cameras combine to reveal unseen details in spiral galaxies Image via Physics at High Angular resolution in Nearby GalaxieS (PHANGS) programme NASA/ESA/CSA: The James Webb Space Telescope released this week a set of stunning images of near and mid-infrared portraits of 19 face-on spiral galaxies. These show details in the structure in the spiral arms of these galaxies in never seen before detail, taken in near- and mid-infrared light with the JWST. Astronomers are planning to study these and other results to help discover more about the history of galaxies and star formation. More via the link below. We mentioned last week that Japan's SLIM lander touched down on the Moon upside down - however the mission is well underway! The SLIM lander recommenced communication despite its awkward situation and science operations have started, including imaging the lander's vicinity. Images of the surrounding rocks on the Moon taken by the SLIM lander were nicknamed to help visual their size. Read more at the JAXA website here. Earl from BINTEL was disappointed to not see a Lunar Chihuahua! Whether these and a few more images released before SLIM powers down for a long Lunar night are the last ones we'll see from the lander is unknown at this stage. |
