Principal's Message In welcoming students back to Term 2, I reminded them of the Core values of Hastings Secondary College, Port Macquarie Campus; that of being Proud, Motivated, Honest and Safe. The student body provided an outstanding example of being PROUD at last Thursday’s ANZAC Day March. I was proud to walk alongside Mr Duck and our school captains Tina, Lewis, Tayla and Zack along with many staff and students as we made our way toward the Cenotaph on the Town Green. The number of staff and students who attended in school uniform was a great demonstration of the respect we have for our ex-servicemen and women. As communications tools continually evolve, so do the communication preferences of our families. Our Campus Parent Portals, College Website, Facebook, Campus Newsletter and SMS are now available for immediate communication to parents. To ensure we continue to meet the needs of our community, we invite you to participate in a communications survey. This online survey is designed to assess current forms of communication and evaluate areas for improvement. Your input is essential and will be used to improve College and Campus efforts in strengthening the partnership with parents/carers. The survey is in electronic form. Paper copies can be supplied by request at your Campus front office. Thank you for providing this valuable feedback to assist us in shaping future parent communications.

Welcome Meaghan Cook Graduating from Hastings Secondary College Port Macquarie Campus in 1988, Meaghan Cook's dream of returning as principal has come true. Meaghan said she hopes her passion for ensuring students are cared for and supported in their learning shines. Naplan is coming The NAPLAN tests for Year 7's and 9 will be held on the 14, 15, and 16 May. They will take place in the MPC. It is important that each student tries their best as these tests are used as a guide for teachers, parents and students on what areas of literacy and numeracy to concentrate on in the future. Don’t stress about the test – it measures what you can do at the moment, not what you will learn in the future! Anzac March A large number of students and staff from Hastings Secondary College participated in this year’s ANZAC day march. Despite falling in the holidays, students felt it was important to commemorate the sacrifices made by the men and women of Australia in war and peace keeping missions. It was moving to see the number of students who proudly wore the medals of their relatives. Port Campus students featured prominently in the ceremony. Bridget Flint delivered an excellent speech regarding the conditions of the diggers in the trenches and on the European battlefields. She had obviously spent a great deal of time researching and writing her speech. She should be proud of the way she spoke which was appreciated by the veteran’s families present. The talented Keanu Bowman sang both the New Zealand and Australian National Anthems. As Greg Laird commented, Keanu has a very big future ahead of him. His renditions were fantastic. A big thank you to all the students who marched, those who held the banners and laid the wreath. The campus was well represented by students who proudly demonstrated the values of Hastings Secondary College. Courage Endurance Mateship and Sacrifice Port Macquarie Campus student Jorjabelle Munday gave a heartfelt speech at the Le Hamel ANZAC service to a captivated audience.
