FACE Testimonial Avril's tale of many firstsMy first trip to Ghana, Africa! This was my first trip to Ghana with FACE. I say first because I cannot imagine it being my last! It was certainly a life changing experience on many levels; everything about this trip was a first. First time to Africa, first time traveling with a charity organization, first experience being a minority, first time eating fufu and red red, first time being in the center of a kid dance mob! FACE is addressing, head-on, the need to educate children...It was so incredible to experience a charity in action. To be able to meet my own sponsor child and have one-on-one interaction with FACE kids brought this organization to life for me. FACE is addressing, head-on, the need to educate children in rural Ghana. These children, their families and villages are so grateful for your sponsorship and the investment you are making in their future and they work hard to make you proud. The last child I interviewed on the trip was an 18 year old boy named Felix in Year/grade 4. He is raising himself and is aspiring to become a policeman. I was so impacted by his determination and drive to his goal, his willingness to start way behind his age group and his gratitude for sponsorship. It filled my heart to know that these are the kinds of children we are sponsoring. I am proud to be an ambassador alongside them for FACEOne of my lasting memories of Ghana is their Faith and Family based culture. Most of the Ghanaians I met wanted to know who I was and about my family, not what I do, which is opposite to our Western culture. They were eager to establish a friendship and offer warm smiles and blessings. My African and Canadian teammates have become an extended family of brothers, sisters, aunties and uncles and I am proud to be an ambassador alongside them for FACE Avril DeJong - Kelowna, British Columbia It would mean a lot to us if you'd share this content among your circles of influence.
