Click here Thompson Focus July 20, 2017Question of the Quarter: We want to hear from you!Wildfire Situation - Is your practice impacted?Interior Health is aware that there could be wider impacts on the community of physicians due to the large numbers of evacuees and their unique care needs due to the wildfire situation. They are reaching out to see if there is a need for any additional supports to handle this unusual circumstance. If your practice is receiving evacuees and would benefit from the support of an additional physician or locum, please feel free to contact Interior Health, information below. The evacuation social services reception centre is currently set up at the Sandman Centre downtown and is running a rotation for physicians putting their name forward who would like to help. It is likely additional local physician support will be required next week as physicians from Williams Lake and 100 Mile House return to their communities. Please contact Kerry McLean Small 250-819-0839 if interested. This is a fluid and rapidly changing circumstance and some communities may be able to return early next week. If there are any further support or suggestions for Interior Health or the Division, please get in touch with us. One of the overarching themes was the need for an overall better flow of information between health care providers through the establishment of networks, or, as many physicians in the room agreed, putting more focus on making the existing system function more efficiently. The idea of a better, more ‘interconnected’ system was a clear priority for all. Most attendees indicated that they are very interested in developing networks and specifically networks comprising of GPs, specialists and allied health professionals combined. Due to the level of interest in network development, the Division is establishing a working group to move this discussion forward. For anyone who was unable to attend the event and would like to participate in the discussion and/or be part of this working group, please contact Maren Luciani, Project Lead, at the Division Office or via telephone at 250-319-8683. The first meeting will be held on September 12 from 5:30-7:00 PM in the Division Boardroom. There will be a light dinner provided and attendees are encouraged to bring their ideas. If you're interested in attending, please get in touch with Maren.
