MINDSET News

March 2022

We are excited to welcome our new cohort of Jardine Ambassadors for this year and to share more about how our ambassadors make an impact to Singapore’s mental health community.

From raising funds to spreading awareness, let us take you through some of MINDSET efforts made possible by the Jardine Ambassadors over the last few months.

A Warm Welcome to Our Changemakers

MINDSET welcomed 21 new ambassadors at the Jardine Ambassadors Appreciation and Appointment Ceremony in January. Held at the Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, the ceremony also celebrated the contributions and achievements of our 10th cohort of Jardine Ambassadors in the last two years.

Jardine Ambassadors, or fondly known as JAs, are chosen across the Jardine Matheson group companies through rigorous application and selection processes to serve the mental health community. They support us in forging new collaborations and initiatives to help more persons-in-recovery as well as deepen MINDSET’s impact on the local community.

Professional Development Workshops for our Ambassadors

Not only do JAs give back to the community through MINDSET, the JA programme also serves as a channel for developing talents for Jardine employees. Each cohort of JAs goes through tailored workshops to learn about mental health and illnesses, which help accelerate their learning curves and prepare them for their roles as mental health ambassadors. Through the programme, they are also equipped with professional development skills such as project management and leadership, as well as understanding their individual and team personality profiling and dynamics.

The MINDSET Challenge & Carnival 2021

Our JAs are the backbone of our flagship fundraising event, The MINDSET Challenge & Carnival (TMCC), from conceptualising, planning to staffing the event.

On 7 November 2021, the month-long TMCC kicked off virtually via Zoom with over 200 participants.

The event began with a live talk-show with panellists – Mr James McCoy, former Commercial & Operations Director of Guardian Singapore; Mr John Yeong, Founder & CEO of SportPlus.SG; and Mr Marcus Lim, Social Worker from TOUCH Community Services. Moderated by Jardine Ambassador Jia Yu, the panel discussed the importance of mental well-being amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and shared valuable insights and tips on enhancing mental wellness for themselves and people around them.

Host and emcees for TMCC - Kenneth, Zheng Li & Zul

In line with the theme of “Around the World”, our host, Kenneth, with emcees Zheng Li and Zul, charmed the audience with their cheeky personalities. TMCC participants were also entertained through a series of interactive games, performances and attractive prizes.

The event concluded a month later with the Virtual Challenge. Over 130 participants competed virtually by clocking the number of steps required to scale the three tallest buildings around the world – the Burj Khalifa, Shanghai Tower and One World Trade Center.

TMCC 2021 raised close to S$180,000, and this was made possible through our generous sponsors, Jardine businesses and associates, families and friends, and partnering mental health social service agencies.

Christmas Carolling with Singapore Association for Mental Health

In collaboration with the Singapore Association for Mental Health, the Awareness & Outreach team of Jardine Ambassadors produced an exclusive video to spread joy and happiness to mental health persons-in-recovery during the festive season. They lip-synced their hearts out to popular Christmas tunes “Twelve Days of Christmas” and “All I want for Christmas is you”. Head over to our Instagram and Facebook pages if you have missed their performances!

Spreading Mental Health Awareness with Kia

During the Lunar New Year period, the Awareness & Outreach and Social Enterprise teams reached out to the public to raise awareness for mental health. Held at the Kia showroom under Cycle & Carriage Singapore, MINDSET distributed mental wellness brochures and shared the social enterprise ‘Wedding Favours’ initiative. The initiative offers newlywed couples the opportunity to give back to society by giving out gifts which are packed by mental health persons-in-recovery.

Jardine Ambassadors of the Quarter

Each quarter, we recognise the exceptional contributions of our JAs.

Congratulations to Brenda Yee and Nur Syafiqah, who were recognised as Jardine Ambassadors of the Quarter for the last quarter of 2021! In addition to their job responsibilities, our JAs never hesitated to go the extra mile in fulfilling their commitment to MINDSET.

Brenda Yee
Social Enterprise Team
HR Executive,
DFI Retail Group

Brenda’s journey in MINDSET has been a rewarding one as it provides her with a platform to be creative and pilot new ideas for the Social Enterprise team. The training programmes provided by MINDSET were also enriching and helped in her professional development. She also cherishes the friendships forged and encourages likeminded colleagues to sign up for the JAs programme.

Nur Syafiqah
Awareness &
Outreach Team
Accounts Executive,
DFI Retail Group

Syafiqah wanted to learn more about mental health and multiply the awareness of those around her. Through her interactions with mental health persons-in-recovery, she found that it was important to be friendly and a good listener. She practised these traits at a terrarium making workshop and was thrilled to see the delight on the attendees faces. Being a Jardine Ambassador is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and she hopes to encourage more around her to continue giving back.
