Avantidrome News No Images? Click here MARCH 2017 Avantidrome News brings the latest news from both on and off the track. There's so much to celebrate this month with personal success stories from many people both on and off the track. In this issue you can read about Avantidrome Coaches, John & Roi Speed and their journey to gold, hear from our Friday Night school crew about what they love about track cycling (plus their top tips for 'older people' wanting to be hip young cyclists!) and learn more about our Coached Ladies Sessions and new Spin Classes in the Life Fitness Zone. There's also free coffee on offer with breakfast at The Bikery Café and we celebrate the success of our very own Jarrod at the Special Olympic Games. Due to the World Masters Games Track Cycling taking place here from Wednesday 26th – Friday 28th April, there will be no public track sessions from Tuesday 25th until midday Saturday 29th. The Life Fitness Zone gym will also be closed during this time, and this includes all classes. We'll be open again for business from midday Saturday. Entry is free for spectators, so come along and enjoy the atmosphere! Finally, a huge congratulations to Nic Brockelbank for completing 113 laps of the Avantidrome in an hour! We are proud to have been able to support Nic in his efforts to raise over $5,000 so far for the NZ Muscular Dystrophy Association. RECORD NUMBERSFriday Night School's Racing has gone from strength to strength, hitting record numbers earlier this month with 85 kids, including a dozen or so from Auckland Schools in preparation for last week’s Vantage Age Group Track National Championships. Cath Cheatley interviewed some of our regulars and here’s what they had to say. Definitely worth a read! EXTRA SPIN CLASSESSpin is one of the fastest fat-burning workouts! Under the direction of a Life Fitness Zone instructor, you will experience slow hard climbs, short sprints and recovery spins. Due to popular demand we've added two extra spin classes - Monday mornings at 6.00 am and Monday evenings at 5.30 pm. These classes will be taken by the fit, friendly and full of fun Etienne. So, prepare to sweat and have fun while doing it! Call reception or book online. LADIES ONLYIf you are an accredited rider (and female!) then come along to one of our Coached Ladies sessions on Monday mornings 9-10am. Coached by the lovely Tony Gainsford (pictured left), these sessions will really help improve your fitness and develop your track skills in a supportive environment among other women. Tony will work with you to develop your skills, at your pace, and you'll be guaranteed some fun along the way. Book online or call reception for more information.
