WORLD WIDE COMMUNION
This past Lent, we explored the mission of the church. One of those com-ponents was Compassion, giving of our time, talents and goods to help others. We have embodied that as a congregation through our commitment to Interfaith Hospitality, Ronald McDonald House, mission trips to Spirit Lake Indian Reservation and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and in many other ways. This World Wide Communion, October 1, we have an opportunity to continue that mission through the Presbytery of Philadelphia's $300,000 for 300 years. This Invitation to Generosity will benefit 8 local organizations that promote the education of children, disrupt the
school-to-prison pipeline, and elevate restorative justice. Our congregation's special offerings will be matched up to $300 by Session. Please make a note on any checks: $300k for 300yrs. Small envelopes will also be available on Sunday for cash donations.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance You can donate to hurricane relief. Go to the national website at: http://pda.pcusa.org/situation/tropical-storm-harvey OR Leave a check in the offering plate. Designate "DR000169-Harvey" in your check memo line.
Notes from the Music Department
Thanks to Allison O’Callaghan for the wonderful anthem suggestion for World Communion Sunday. We hope you will be present at worship to hear the rousing, “Go Ye Into All the World” by Eugene Butler. Submitted by Brenda Browne CONGRATULATIONS On Saturday, October 7th, proud parents, Maurice & Brenda Browne, will be celebrating the marriage of their daughter Jessica Browne to Raf Henson at the Spring Mill Manor in Ivyland, PA. Best Wishes to Jessica and Raf as they start their new life together. September 17th POT LUCK SUPPER East Falls Presbyterian Church's Pot Luck Supper was a complete success. The Church Choir (led by our own Brenda Browne) provided us with a replay of our Strawberry Festival concert followed by an abundance of wonderful food provided by many different individuals. The evening was one of fellowship and enjoyment by all. Thanks go to Cliff Haines for spearheading this event and Brenda Browne & Chancel Choir for a wonderful program. OH NO ! In late August Doven Collins "rolled" her Right ankle helping with some construction in their back yard. It looked and felt like a sprain; but a few days later, she banged her right foot (again) going down stairs while walking the dogs. The resulting x-ray confirmed an ankle AND foot fracture. Despite the injuries, a pre-planed trip to Italy was not to be postponed. Doven was determined to travel with Brad to a research conference in Italy a few days later. They traveled to Padova and Venice (both of which are not accessible cities for h the handicaped), but Doven managed to traverse the cities (talk about perseverance). After returning home and returning to work the next day, Doven fell from her crutches and broke a lower rib in her back. !!! Best Wishes to Doven and we look forward to her speedy recovery. Please don't forget to pickup a copy of the PRES in the Narthex You a bio of one of our members and other updated information. Time change (back) Sunday, November 5th. |
