Bring the kids and come learn what’s happening in Tauranga Moana and see marine biologists dissect a shark, go on crab and critter hunts and take part in real science experiments. There will also be competitions, face painting, story telling, bouncy castles, food, music and more. These range everywhere from growing your own food, beach/estuary clean ups, consumer choices workshops, cooking, solar home seminars, bush walks, exhibitions, farmers/ night markets, kids events and movie screenings. Each year ARRC and Holistic Vets care for more than 700 birds and wildlife. Many of these are sea bird that have become injured and orphaned, often because of man’s impact. Come along and see what we do to help! Anyone welcome over 8 years of age (numbers are limited so book quickly). Seabirds and wildlife are regularly brought in for care. Come along to learn more about what we do to help: Little Blue Penguins mauled by dogs; Shags with fishhooks stuck in their beaks; Albatrosses with wing injuries; Poisoned seagulls; Orphaned dotterel chicks; Oystercatchers with broken legs; and more! Also learn more about an up and coming theme in our society in our talk by Liza Schneider: “One Health – How the health of animals, humans and the environment are interlinked” and be in to win spot prizes.
Tauranga Worm Composting Workshop
Come along to our 2-hour interactive workshop to learn the art of worm farming. Take home your own worm farm bin, worms, lime and compost so you can get started straight away. The workshop is subsidised by Council with a nominal fee charged. The take-home pack is valued at $180. The workshop is catered to beginners of worm farming with little or no experience, or for those who would like a refresher. If you don’t need a worm farm you can come to the workshop at no cost, however, you still need to register. The workshop is open to Tauranga City Council residents only. Katikati Health & Wellbeing Expo
The aim of the Katikati Health & Wellbeing Expo is to motivate and educate visitors in health, fitness and general well-being and inspire them to live a healthier, more active lifestyle. Launched in 2012 by the Katikati Community Centre, the biannual Health & Wellbeing Expo has grown in size and popularity, enabling visitors to have the opportunity to try, research and buy a number of products and services covering health services, fitness equipment, nutrition, apparel, education, and much more. Alongside these products and services, the Health & Wellbeing Expo creates a motivating and high-energy environment showcasing a number of live demonstrations and free health & fitness seminars. Young leaders wanted for new sports councilSport Bay of Plenty is putting the call out for young leaders with an interest in sport to apply for a newly established sports council. Aimed at increasing youth voice in the school sport sector, all Year 12 and 13 students across the Bay of Plenty can apply. Sport Bay of Plenty School Sport team leader Gareth Yates said they were looking to get a fair and balanced representation of students' wants and needs and the new initiative was not just aimed at sports enthusiasts. The successful applicants will be chosen based on their passion for sport, and desire and enthusiasm to encourage other students in their school and the wider region. Representatives are to be selected from a variety of sporting codes, backgrounds and schools to ensure that each area is represented on the council. Meetings commence from week eight of term one and will be held each term throughout the year. Council members must be willing to commit to all meetings.

School children across NZ are invited to photograph, draw and describe their favourite place as part of a national competition celebrating enjoyment of the great outdoors.
