It's OfficialTe Hihi School is now an authorised IB Primary Years Programme School! We are just one of nine Auckland Schools who are PYP authorised and one of 14 across the whole of New Zealand. Clearly, this is a high accolade for the school and our teachers are to be congratulated for all of their hard work in this area. Matariki Flag CompetitionCongratulations to Lockie Douglas who won the Papakura Business Association's Matariki Flag Competition with his design. Lockie's flag will fly from our school flagpole for the rest of Matariki and can also be seen in various places around Papakura. A great effort Lockie!! Matariki DayToday Te Hihi hosted kapa haka from Drury, Hingaia Peninsula and Ramarama schools as we celebrated Matariki. The day started with a powhiri on the top court when Te Hihi's kapa haka performed. After sharing kai at morning tea, each visiting school kapa haka performed the hall and then we shared kai of American hotdogs and ice-creams. The performances by all schools were amazing and a credit to the staff at each school who are taking the kapa haka. The day was hugely successful thanks to the tenacity and attention to detail of Kim Matheson, Mhu and Sandy Rawiri, and our FOTHS ladies. Student Achievement MeetingsStudent Achievement Meetings are being held on Tuesday 25 June and Wednesday 26 June. This year we will start these meetings at 2:30 p.m. so that we can provide enough time slots for all families to meet with their child's teacher over the two days. Buses will run at normal times. Please note: There is only 1 session available per child. This also applies for students whose parents have separated. To make your booking please go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz Enter event code m34ya then follow the instructions. This is a time to come along to meet with the teachers and discuss your child’s learning. We encourage you to make the effort to book a time, if you need help to book a time please contact the school office and we will book it for you. Bookings are now open. These will close on Tuesday 25 June at 12 o’clock noon. Book FairThank you to everyone who supported our Book Fair and for helping us to raise money for new books to go into our library. It was great to have more books donated to our library, we really appreciate this and our students will enjoy reading them. Thank you to those people who helped set up, work at the counter and helped to pack the books. Buddy ReadingThis is Te Kanawa and Hillary reading together last Tuesday. Buddy reading was part of book week and Hillary selected books to share and read with our class. Cross Country TrainingWe have started our cross-country training. At this stage it will just be within our school grounds. This is a reminder to please make sure your child has a change of clothes packed and a towel to help dry their feet and legs. Make sure these are in a separate bag and all clothing, towels, etc. are clearly named. If your child can not participate they must bring a note from home or a medical certificate as cross-country is part of our school curriculum. An Evening with Kathryn BerkettRecently, Delene Jamieson and I heard Kathryn Berkett speak at a Papakura Principals' Conference. We were so impressed with her sensible approach to getting children to make good decisions and to act appropriately socially, some of the local schools decided it would be good to get her back to present to staff and parents. Therefore, on Thursday 20 June, she will hold a session for parents at Hingaia Peninsula School. Whilst there is no cost for parents to attend, the learning will be valuable.
