2018 was a roller coaster of a year for the agricultural sector, many WA farmers were rewarded with high yields and good prices whilst our neighbours in the east suffered terribly from drought and more recently flooding.
In 2018 we welcomed 2338 students through our doors. However, 2019 is shaping up to be our biggest yet at Muresk with the implementation of new initiatives, programs, courses and events. The focus this year is on strategic business management skills with providers such as RCS Business of Grazing, KLR Marketing Schools and Horizonone – Agtech Business Growth Program being held for the first time at Muresk. The Muresk team is also working in collaboration with a range of providers to support agricultural entrepreneurs with innovative business ideas and models.
Some of our highlights once again for this year are our annual Drone versus Dog Trials program and the Ag Technology Field Day (Farm Smart Showcase). Collectively these events exposed hundreds of people to Muresk Institute and featured the latest innovations, technologies and upskilling opportunities in the agricultural sector. These events also gain significant media attention, further amplifying the work we are doing to champion the agriculture industry and careers in agriculture. If you have a spare minute watch Today Tonight’s feature on Drone versus Dog.
Our commitment to research and development will continue this year with the Stud Merino Breeders’ Sire Evaluation program and a partnership with Murdoch University for livestock sensor trials along with some cropping related trials.
I would also like to take this opportunity to officially welcome seven new members to our advisory committee – it’s great to have your valuable input.
To keep up to date with news as it happens and new programs as they become available, I invite you to like our Facebook page or visit the Muresk Institute website.
Look forward to seeing you on Campus.
