NOTICES:
*Safety of our Students: It is important for the safety of our students and local residents that all parents who drive to school in the mornings and afternoons are adhering to the road rules. We ask you all to consider the following: - Do not speed on our surrounding roads as many families walk to and from school and this compromises their
safety.
- Do not park on the zig zag lines at the front of the school as this impacts on our students safely crossing the road.
- Do not park across the driveways of our neighbours, as this will disrupt access to their private property. As a school we suggest walking or catching public transport to school to where possible. If you have to drive, there is often ample parking spaces a little further away from the school, which may also alleviate the congestion and stress of the morning. We thank you for your cooperation on this matter and your consideration of our local community. **The 2018/2019 Academic Year begins on Monday 10th September 2018.***Shoes and clothing donations please! If you have any shoes/plimsolls/wellies or tights and socks that your child has grown out of, please can you bring them along to the Reception classrooms. Thank you!
****Equipment - Parents please ensure your child comes into school with all the equipment and food they will need for the day. The front office will not be responsible for taking things to classroom as this is disruptive to children's learning.Reminder to Parents - No bicycles or scooters are to be ridden in the school gates, this includes when coming to collect from after school clubs - No climbing is permitted on the bicycle racks
Community Choir
The next two community choir rehearsals will take place on Friday 8th June and Friday 22nd June, running from 4-5pm. We will be working with instruments as we build towards a fantastic community parade in July. Come along and enjoy the fun! No experience necessary
Reception are real writers! As we begin to collate all of our wonderful work about animals and life cycles for our final information book, we have been working very hard on our writing skills. We always try our best to use our phonics to write words by ourselves and are also
practising spelling a lot of 'red' words correctly. This week, we wrote information about different mammals in the form of labels and captions.
Awongalema! This Week in Year 1 we have started a new story - Awongalema. It is an African tale all about animals who are trying to find out the name of an acacia tree so that it will start growing fruit again. The only problem is that every time an animal goes to ask the
mountain spirits what the name is, they are in such a hurry to get back they crash into an ant hill and forget! In the end the wise owl decides that maybe a slow animal will be better... We have enjoyed acting out the story and have created some fantastic paintings inspired by it. We think the lesson of the story is to take your time and not rush!
Year 2 in the Zoo!In Literacy this week we have been looking at images from a story about a zoo and exploring how we can empathise with the different characters, especially the animals. We thought really deeply about how different zoo animals would feel at different parts of their
day and we used role play to put ourselves in their shoes. We then used this deepening to help us write a postcard from our animal in the zoo to their family back in their natural habitat. We included a lot of emotive language, adjectives, conjunctions and different types of sentences to make our writing interesting.
Super storytellers and master matheticians This Week Year 3 have taken on challenging tasks across every subject. In storytelling, they have been drafting and editing their own stories set in China, featuring a cruel emperor and four heroic dragons. The children have supported
each other in the editing process, by reading through each other's work and suggesting changes. In this way, the children have been developing the attributes of expertise and craft. Speaking of expertise, the children have also been tackling complicated multiplication and division equations, by partitioning larger numbers. This has also required some grit, but the children have learned that no problem is too big to solve.
2 weeks until Year 4 go camping! This Week in project we have been thinking about all the items that should, could and shouldn't be taken on expedition. We first talked about expeditions to extreme conditions and then considered Epping and what we would need for our trip. We
did this by sorting items into either a rucksack or a house and had to justify why we had put each item where we had. Year 4 classes also discussed how they were feeling about the trip and had chance to ask any questions they had. A kit list has been sent home this week to help you pack with your children and there is also a contact information letter that needs to be returned by Friday 22nd June. We are also on the hunt for large saucepans for us to cook dinner for the children, if you have one of these that you could lend to us for the night we would be very grateful- please let your class teacher know!

Overdue Libary Books

Two of our Year 4 parents run arts company ZU-UK and they are doing an incredible project called Pick Me Up (& hold me tight). The project takes place in all of the UK's pay phones (all 34,000) ringing at the same time in memory of those that have taken their own lives. This will happen at 11am on the 1st January when there is a significant yearly spike. The subject is personal to them and a sensitive and ethically challenging one so they are raising money for a pilot in order for it to be as well thought out as possible. Out of £15,000 needed 27% has been
raised already but there are only 19 days remaining to raise the rest or the project won't happen. See more here:
