March ENews No Images? Click here Hi everyone, The life of Meme McDonald was celebrated with a public memorial in Springhill on February 18. Meme’s legacy as an artist, administrator and author in Victoria is profound, and our organisation was fortunate to be one of many to benefit from her insights as a Board Member from 2000-2004. I ended the month presenting the Greg Binns Memorial Lecture for the Voluntary Guides at the Art Gallery of Ballarat. Greg was a visual artist, poet, teacher, educator and volunteer who made significant contributions to communities in Ballarat, Geelong and Mildura, amongst others. With history comes weight. We can either be held down by it, or use it to create momentum. Attending Meme’s memorial and speaking at an event named in Greg’s honour, I felt both a respect for the work they had done, and the energy to build on it. And so, we build. Joe Toohey Small Town TransformationsWe’re very pleased to announce two major outcomes for Small Town Transformations in the coming weeks: Luminous Galleries on the Bass Coast on Saturday 7 April and Dive Down the Rabbit Hole at Birregurra on Saturday 28 April. Birregurra Mechanics Institute Hall will host a live art event created and directed by acclaimed artists Craig Walsh and Gorkem Acaroglu. Celebrating the fusion of old and new, histories and futures, this live art spectacular will be an outpouring of creative expression that defines the town of Birregurra's identity and its connection to its Mechanics Hall.
