DATES DEC 7: Completion Forms due to Instructors DEC 7: PIE Application due JAN 7: Winter 2019 term begins EVALUATION NEWS COMMUNITY PARTNERS: As we approach the end of term, we wanted to remind you that our evaluation surveys that will be sent to you via email. These are surveys (for students, community partners, and instructors) that help us gauge the effectiveness of CSL and also the impacts that our program is having. I encourage each of you to complete the short survey when you get the link from our evaluation coordinator, Shingi Mandizadza. The evaluation process is important because it informs our program development and helps us to ensure that we offer quality placements to students. INSTRUCTORS: if you haven't already done so, please email cslinfo@ualberta.ca to let the CSL team know to come to your class and administer the CSL student evaluations (please pick a time at the start of OR end of class, for approximately 10 mins, between Nov 26th and Dec 7th). A reminder that all survey data from CSL students, instructors and community partners is kept anonymous, and not shared except in aggregate form. PEOPLE We welcome Tine Tennesen to the CSL team as our new Administrative Assistant, and say best wishes to Mpoe Mogale, our Fall 2018 student intern - thank you for everything, Mpoe! Tine Tennessen, Administrative Assistant Tine Tennessen came to us in November of 2018 from the Oil and Gas Industry. Although she had never previously worked at the University, she grew up on Campus (3 Dean’s Campus House across from the Faculty Club). Her father, Herman Tennessen was a Philosophy and Psychology Professor here for over 25 years. Tine is an avid cyclist, environmentalist and health enthusiast who spends as much time as she can on an organic farm West of Edmonton practicing animal husbandry. Mpoe Mogale, CSL Student Intern I am so sad to see my time with CSL come to an end. I have learned a great deal from this internship (professionally and personally) and was so fortunate to work alongside a team of folks filled with wisdom, joy, and a passion for what they do. I especially want to thank CSL for allowing me to meet students, instructors, and community partners that are doing incredible work with the community. You can still find me across campus talking about CSL to anyone that will listen, as well as occupied with discussions around equity and diversity, and curating/performing in various art shows in the community. Thank you for having me CSL! CSL STUDENT SEMINAR: Where can CSL take you? Wednesday, November 28th, 2018 HUMANITIES 101 It has been a busy term and we are currently getting ready to host three graduating classes with over forty people receiving certificates from our three different classes! The Wings class held its graduation on November 21st, celebrating the end of a successful term of learning centred on the theme of Women’s Labour. On December 11th we will be holding a knowledge share and graduation party for the Parkdale One and on-campus Humanities 101 classes. For the knowledge share, folks will present on the work they have done in small groups, applying different theoretical lenses to a variety of systems and institutions. This semester we also attended the John & Maggie Mitchell Art Gallery at MacEwan University where we explored the topics of play and children in creative spaces. We also had a number of Humanities 101 participants attend the Parkland Institute’s conference “Alberta 2019: Forces of Change”. Finally, on November 26th we will be taking a tour of the University of Alberta’s Bryan/Gruhn Archaeology Collection and Department of Physics Astronomical Observatory, as well as taking a campus tour. All in all, it has been an exciting and busy semester. PARTNERSHIP SPOTLIGHT HIV EDMONTON This fall, HIV Edmonton was pleased to host a number of students in different areas of programming.
