Message From The President

Welcome to term three and I trust everyone had a fabulous holiday break.  I would firstly like to extend a warm welcome to our A/Principal Mr Michael McInerheney on behalf of the P&C who has joined us for term three and four from West Leederville Primary School. With two deputies positions recently made vacant, we also welcome Mr Steve Godden and Mrs Lechelle Ruscoe  and look forward to working with the new look school administration in terms three and four.

We had a great turn out at our P&C meeting on Tuesday night with many items progressing nicely. Check out the key outcomes below:

1.  Term three events calendar
Last term saw lots of fundraising events, whilst this term has many student-focused events.  Be sure to check out the key dates below.  There are many opportunities to volunteer a small amount of time and enjoy seeing your kids in action!

2.  Traffic Management
We are pursuing options to improve the safety of the many children crossing Chandler Avenue. Lynette Dias has been tirelessly counting vehicles in preparation for a submission for a cross walk.  With the wet weather and more people driving to school, it is a timely reminder to slow down, stay alert and watch out for our kids on the road. It is also important for parents to make sure they are NOT parking on the yellow lines along Chandler avenue.

3.  School Wish list 2015
We are pleased to report that the infrastructure contributions have been expended to purchase new computers for the computer room and an additional one per classroom.  Air-conditioning quotes and work schedule are being finalised as we aim to have these installed ready for the summer months.

4.  Arts Cards and Calendars Fundraiser
This fabulous fundraiser will continue in 2015, with a bit of a twist.  Our students have produced some amazing art throughout the year whether that is in class time or within the art program. Our handy school photographer will be photographing a selected art piece from each student and this will be used for the arts, cards and calendars initiative.  More information to follow.  Many thanks to our volunteers and class teachers who are supporting this much loved fundraiser.

Finally, I would like to extend a special thanks to Mrs Mahshid Taheri who will leave us at the end of this week.  Mahshid has been a wonderful member of the school administration and staff, most recently assisting the school as we transition to IPS.  I have worked very closely with Mahshid and know her to be a wonderfully generous colleague and passionate educator who will be missed by parents and students.  I wish Mahshid every success as she leaves us to pursue a very exciting opportunity.

New Computer Lab

Thank you to all the parents who contributed to the Infrastructure levy this year . We now have a  Computer Lab filled with new computers and every class room has a computer.

Skyline is looking for Volunteers

For new families to the school, The Skyline Project will be a P&C funded outdoor nature space for meeting, playing and learning. We are reconnecting our school community with our suburb heritage whilst turning a central hub of our school currently under-utilised into a beautiful space that will be multi-purpose, accessible and something to be proud of.  The site is the area under the trees between the oval and the basketball courts.

Skyline is a big project, so we are breaking it down into stages. We are ready to start Stage 1 now and it will include the following (depending on final quotes and budget);

  • A small Nature Playground in the northern end (close to the BER/Undercover area), we are calling 'Athletes Village'
  • Ramps over the drain at the 2 access points
  • Pathways to traverse from the oval to the basketball courts - 'Plank Road' and 'The Boulevard'
  • An area with different sized boulders placed in an organic semi-circular fashion for meeting, climbing and outdoor learning - 'The Quarry'
  • An outdoor Story Book similar to those found in Kings Park where we can add our own pages of artwork, stories and history for the students and community to learn more about our suburbs heritage
  • A limestone/concrete poured curbing to separate the oval and the play area
  • Electrical foundations for lighting and power to the area

We are looking for volunteers to join our Skyline Committee. You do not need to have building experience, just an interest in getting involved in creating something amazing for our children. A lot of the work in the scope of the project will need to be outsourced, so if you are able to pick up the phone and get quotes, make selections/recommendations, meet contractors at the school, then you will be perfect.  We will also be organising busy bees so if you have a knack for coordinating events then we would love to hear from you as well!  If you're not sure what you can offer but would like to get involved, please get in touch.

Do you know anyone who can provide trade skills, supplies or services in the following areas? Any money we can save through 'mates rates' will get us more bang for our buck, so more facilities for the kids.

  • Electrician
  • Landscaper
  • Lanscape Supplies
  • Playground Supplies
  • Plants
  • Mulch
  • Steel Fabricator
  • Concrete/Limestone Pouring

Please email us if you are able to assist.
