Important COVID-19 Update - Community Sport

From Saturday 26 September, inter-regional community sporting competitions can recommence without restricting these activities to regions or zones, where there is a COVID-19 Safety Plan for the school or community sporting activity in place.

The advice provided in August regarding limiting spectators to one parent per child, and inter-region sport and recreation activities has been removed, however organisations must still ensure their activity is delivered in compliance with the Public Health Order and the COVID-19 Safety Plan requirements.

COVID-19 Information Packs and Safety Plans for Sport and Junior Activities have been updated, along with the COVID-19 Matrix for SLS Activities. Following feedback from the membership, a Summary of Changes is also now available for the suite of SLSNSW COVID-19 resources.

2021 NSW Country Surf Life Saving Championships

The current COVID restrictions on Community Sport competitions is proving extremely challenging for sport organisations to effectively plan to host major events.

On the basis of these restrictions, it is with great disappointment that we announce the difficult decision made by the SLSNSW Board to cancel the 2021 NSW Country Surf Life Saving Championships. In its deliberations, the Board considered many factors, including the requirements for families to plan travel and accommodation, the availability of officials and various safety personnel and other volunteers and the limits on numbers permitted at sporting events due to COVID. It was considered simply too difficult logistically to plan to operate the Championships within the prevailing restrictions this year. 

We wish to thank the Cudgen Headland SLSC for their significant contribution to the Country Championships over the past two years and the significant planning that has already been undertaken for the 2021 event.

SLSNSW has a working group in place to assist with planning for the 2022 Country Championships and beyond.

UAV Proficiency Now Open

UAV proficiency is now open and must be completed by Thursday 31 December 2020.
The following components are required for proficiency to be granted:

• Submission of ARN (if you have done this previously then no need to repeat) and Excluded Category Notification (yearly requirement) to uav@surflifesaving.com.au
• Review of the SLSNSW UAV Standard Operating Procedures
• Successful completion of this questionnaire and a pass mark of 20/21 marked questions (multiple attempts accepted).

2020 Envirobank NSW Super Team Series

SLSNSW is excited to introduce the 2020 Envirobank NSW Super Team Series - a new event concept that features six teams competing over three rounds in Swim, Ski, Board, Sprint, Flags, 2km Run and Relay racing.

• Round One - Saturday 17 October 2020, Swansea-Belmont SLSC
• Round Two - Saturday 7 November 2020, Bulli SLSC
• Round Three - Saturday 5 December 2020, TBC, Central Coast

Grant funding is an ideal way to obtain equipment, infrastructure or program funding for your club. In support of SLSCs in NSW, SLSNSW provides a professional grant service at no fee to NSW SLSCs through Surf Life Saving Foundation’s Grant Seeking Unit (GSU). The GSU is a national grant research and writing support unit for SLS entities across Australia.

Beach Safety Awareness Presenter - Casual

Reporting to the Community Education Manager, this role is responsible for assisting Surf Life Saving NSW with the delivery of beach and water safety education programs to a variety of groups with a key focus on primary and high schools.

Australian Lifeguard Service NSW - Recruitment Now Open!

With over 350 positions available across 90 locations, the ALS is encouraging surf lifesavers to apply as a means of offering local employment, building stronger relationships with clubs and providing opportunities for club members to develop leadership and lifesaving skills as:

• Lifeguard Supervisors
• Seasonal Lifeguards
• Casual Lifeguards.
