Geoffrey Crews: Teacher Training in East Timor

Geoffrey Crews has over 25 years’ experience in international education. He will be drawing on his most recent experiences working with the Timor-Leste English Language Program (ETELP). This is a teacher training initiative funded by Australian aid. The program has two main components – pre-service teacher training for the secondary school system and in-service training in two remote districts, with an international ELT Specialist assigned to each component. Geoffrey will review successes and challenges to date and share insights gained from working to develop the ELT sector in Timor Leste.  Geoffrey Crews will give his session at 11:00am on the 7th of May.

Nicki Blake: Heutagogy - What?

Nicki Blake has recently been working with the idea that the theory of pedagogy may not be working so well for adult ELICOS students. Instead she has experimented with heutagogy. Her presentation will explain what heutagogy is and contrast it to pedagogy and andragogy. She will also explore how teachers can effectively draw on the theory of heutagogy in an ESL classroom to better meet the needs of today’s ELICOS student.  Nicki Blake will give her session at 12:00pm on the 8th of May.
