Partnering for Innovation in Breast CancerExciting news! This year Breast Cancer Foundation NZ's core research programme is offering a single grant, Partnering for Innovation in Breast Cancer, worth $600,000. The grant is to be paid over four to five years, supporting an important study where a research team has defined a project and pathway with clear clinical potential. We welcome applications from research groups working in the following areas: detection and diagnosis; development or trial of innovative and/or targeted treatments to improve early breast cancer survival; extending survival for metastatic breast cancer patients; improving clinical practice and supportive care for better patient outcomes. We're grateful to our generous donors for making this grant possible. Pink Caravan starts South Island tourPinkie is back on the road for 2020 and heading south! We'll be kicking off our South Island tour in Invercargill on February 24, so if you're in the area, come visit our nurses, pick up some helpful resources and get to know all about breast health and self-checks. Pinkie and our nurses will be travelling up the South Island, so keep an eye out for when they're in your town! BCFNZ advocates for free GP visitsWhen we released I'm Still Here, our report on advanced breast cancer (ABC) in New Zealand, patients told us the inability to manage symptoms had the largest negative impact on their quality of life. People with ABC face significant financial hardship and they're often unable to afford doctor visits to manage their symptoms. We are now preparing to present our petition calling for free GP visits for people with ABC to MP Maggie Barry. Thank you to the more than 3,000 people who signed the petition - your voices have been heard and appreciated. We will continue to advocate for those with ABC this year. NZ House & Garden Tours Our NZ Hourse & Garden Tours are back for 2020! 🎉 This year, you'll have the chance to see stunning homes around the country, such as the one pictured, from the Bay of Islands to Dunedin. If you would like to volunteer, and see the homes in your area at the same time, sign up on our website. Support your female staff On World Cancer Day, we asked Kiwi employers to give eligible female staff members two paid hours off work to attend regular mammograms as part of their policy. We'd love to hear from organisations who have taken up our two-hour challenge, or who already have the policy in place! You can read more about our initiative here.
