The Future of Lakes: Urgent Messages from the Far NorthPublic talk by Warwick Vincent, 6.30pm July 11, 2018, Holiday Inn Rotorua Professor Vincent is currently home in New Zealand to help the review of science for Plan Change 10 for water quality in the Te Arawa Lakes. On July 11, he will talk about his latest observations of climate impacts near the North Pole, and what these imply for global lake water management, now and in the future. He has authored over 300 scientific articles and several books and is an honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand. Tea and coffee will be provided before the talk. Mōtū Trails Dunes Trail planting days July 20189.30am, Sunday 8 July at Tirohanga, 6km east of Opotiki Every winter, community planting days help to restore the coastal environment that the Dunes Trail passes through. Over 12,000 plants have gone in, a huge part of why the trail is looking better each year. The plant species are carefully selected to replicate the original dunes environment, with care taken not to block key view windows. Come and help! All welcome! All you need is covered shoes, warm clothes and a smile. Bring a spade if you wish, though some will be available. A BBQ lunch will be provided free afterwards.
