Welcome BackKia ora, welcome back. Term 2 is yet another busy term for the school. The Board of Trustees elections happen early next month (see below). Information and a nomination form is being posted home to every parent next week. This term we will be celebrating Book Weeks and Matariki. Each is very different to the other, and both are annual events held in Term 2. At the end of the term we will be sending home reports and have our Student Achievement Meetings (SAM's). This year, our reports have changed to reflect the introduction of the Sharing Our Learning afternoons. As we head into winter the students do need to dress for the weather. However, that doesn't excuse non-uniform items being worn. Most of the students make their way to school in warm vehicles and our rooms all have good heating in them. Once again, please see below regarding the notice on uniforms. The school starts the term with a new SKIDS provider in place and information about this is below. Our Friends of Te Hihi School are a wonderful support group for the school and run fundraising events through the year to help with funding the 'nice to haves'. Please get in behind their fundraising efforts through the term and if you have any new, great ideas or would like to help out, please let us know. Kevin Bush, Principal Te Hihi School Board of Trustees’ ElectionNominations are invited for the election of 5 parent representatives to the board of trustees. A nomination form and a notice calling for nominations will be posted to all eligible voters. You can nominate another person to stand as a candidate, or you can nominate yourself. Both parts of the form must be signed. Additional nomination forms can be obtained from the school office. Nominations close at noon on Friday 24 May 2019 and may be accompanied by a signed candidate statement and photograph. The voting roll is open for inspection at the school and can be viewed during normal school hours. There will also be a list of candidates’ names, as they come to hand, for inspection at the school. Voting closes at noon on Friday 7 June 2019 Wendy Carpenter Returning Officer Paid Union MeetingsNext week teachers will be attending Paid Union Meetings to discuss the stalled Collective Agreement negotiations. The teachers have opted for attending different meetings from Wednesday to Friday so that the school can remain open and there is little to no disruption on student learning. UniformsPlease make sure all uniforms are well named. With the weather beginning to change and the days cooling a little it is a good time to remind everyone of what is allowed to be worn under uniforms. Stocking tights can be worn under the girls skorts and cullottes. No leggings. If you think your child will get cold there are trackpants available to purchase from the uniform shop. The new school jacket can be worn to and from school and in the breaks but they are not to be worn in the class during learning time. The February pre ordered jackets are now in and can be picked up and paid for in the office. We are a uniform school and we need to make sure that we keep the standard of dress presented correctly. Non-uniform clothing are not to be worn. TaylorIn Taylor we all learn in different ways. Here are some pictures. Some us of like working by ourselves, others with a teacher, some with a buddy and our favourite is usually in a group. Sometimes we like to use devices and sometimes we like to talk with our buddies or teachers. When we work in groups we have to be caring and open minded to other people's ideas. We have to be communicators and express our ideas clearly so that our group understands what we are saying. We also have to be knowledgeable when we use devices to be sensible and use the right words to search for the information we need. HillaryHillary has been making a poppy display for Anzac Day which was commemorated during the holidays . Grandparents' AfternoonEach year we hold a grandparents' afternoon during our book weeks. We'd like to give you advance notice that our Grandparents' Afternoon will be held on Thursday 30 May. This is always an enjoyable afternoon so remember to mark it in your calendar and invite your grandparents. Language and Assessment PoliciesAs part of our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, the school has revised our Assessment and Language policies. These documents are on our website and will be uploaded into SchoolDocs where the rest of the school policies and procedures are housed.
