Girls' Tennis The Girls' Tennis Team made a strong showing at the Region and State tournaments this season with their hard work and leadership of first-year coach Sterling Whipple. With the combining of the 2A and 3A divisions for tennis this year, our team was matched up against schools several times larger than Wasatch Academy. The team took 4th place overall at the Region Tournament. Ines Schmid and Giulia Stocchino won the Region
Championship in 1st Doubles. Tenzin Norzom and Lucia Vilanova took second place in 2nd Doubles. Clista Galecki, Sophia Jessee, and Himari Yoneda took third, fifth, and eighth, in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd singles. The state qualifiers represented Wasatch Academy well as they battled for every point possible at the State Tournament. The 2nd Doubles team of Norzom Tenzin and Lucia Vilanova were able to battle past the first round but were overcome in the second round by the duo from Grantsville. Our 1st Doubles team of Giulia Stocchino and Ines Schmid beat teams from powerhouse programs Morgan, Grantsville, and Judge Memorial to bring home the State Championship. The team bus was met at the Wasatch Academy Victory Bell to
celebrate the championship and the birthday of Giulia Stocchino.
Baseball The Boys' Baseball Team worked through struggles during the first half of the season but was able to work together for some success down the home stretch. Our team secure a spot in the State Tournament with wins over American Prep Academy-Draper, Maeser School, American Prep Academy-West Valley, and Utah Military Academy-Camp Williams. The team was eliminated in the first round of the State tournament by St. Joseph High
School.
Cross Country The Cross Country Team had a great season with the girls' team trio of Sheilah Cheruiyot, Ashley Lagat, and Purity Kattam taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place at the Region Championship. Diego Ruiz Osorio also qualified for State at the Region meet. The State meet went well with Sheilah and Ashley taking 4th and 5th place as well as Purity taking the
18th spot. Diego competed with a very difficult field of runners but was still able to run a great time in the top 40 runners in the state.
Girls' Volleyball The Girls' Volleyball Team has had a great season with the leadership of captains Courtney Condie and Izumi Robertson. The team had an early season win over a top 5 ranked team and finished the regular season in 3rd place in the Region. They will compete in the State Tournament this weekend at Utah Valley University.
Boys' Volleyball The Boys' Volleyball Team has constantly improved this season and is currently ranked 3rd in their division. Returners Avery Wade and Sam Wood have lead the team with their solid play and experience, while newcomer Ismael Diarra has electrified audiences with his high-flying hits. The team will have its final home match of the season this
Friday and will compete in the USSA State Tournament next week.
