JFC Construction Update - Shut down period

Karangahape Road Alert Level 4 - construction update

The Government has announced that New Zealand is now at Covid-19 Alert Level 3 and that we will move to Alert Level 4 today 11.59pm, Wednesday, 25 March 2020.

This means all Auckland Transport construction sites are being made safe and secure by our contractors and will be closed from 11.59pm today.  These sites will be regularly monitored for health and safety.

For information about the alert levels see NZ’s COVID-19 website:

What this means for the Karangahape Road Enhancement’s project:

JFC is focusing on making their worksites safe and secure to be left unattended.  This work will take place mainly in the areas we have closed off and includes:

  • Backfilling of holes to remove any dangers associated with excavations in road and footpath areas
  • Temporary reinstatement of surfaces to make them safe
  • Road markings to reflect layout. These will be done after the backfilling and reinstatement and are planned for Wednesday evening to be completed before the lock down.
  • The traffic management (signs cones and fencing) to keep the sites safe will be monitored at regular intervals.

We will be closely monitoring the situation and will be moving back into construction as soon as the alert is lifted. Rest assured that while we are not physically on site we are continuing to use this time to plan the execution of the next phases of the project.
