Quilts for Dorcas MinistriesDorcas Ministries will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2018 and the celebration theme is STITCHING TOGETHER A COMMUNITY - 50 Years of Service. As a part of our celebration, we are looking for volunteer quilters to create quilts inspired by our 50 years of service to the community. What will Dorcas do with the quilts? We are asking quilters to donate their quilts to Dorcas that will be sold in a silent auction to be conducted in November. The funds raised will support our outreach services. How many quilts are we looking to have donated? Our goal is 50 quilts, one for every year of Dorcas’ service to Cary and Morrisville. What if I want to sew a quilt, but cannot afford to? Dorcas Ministries will assist in the cost of quilting supplies if a quilter is unable to afford the quilting materials. If you need assistance, email Bob Stapleton at quilt@dorcas-cary.org. Cary Quilting Company will provide a 10% discount on quilting supplies for Dorcas Quilts. Please mention the project to receive your discount. Will there be a minimum bid at the silent auction? Yes, an opening minimum price using square inches and pattern complexity will be used. We will defer to local quilting experts to help us do this to make sure we are not underpricing the quilts donated to us. How should I drop off my quilt? Please see Ellen Frazier at Dorcas Ministries or email Bob Stapleton at quilt@dorcas-cary.org to arrange a drop off of your quilt. We ask that you fill in a Quilt Donor form to be returned with your donated quilt. Do not drop your quilt at the drop-off area in the back of Dorcas Ministries. ·Will there be an acknowledgment for donating a quilt? Nothing is more precious than donating your time and talent for a cause you support. Our goal will be to publicly acknowledge each person/group who donates a quilt. Will the donated quilts have an identifying label? We have a label that we would like sewn on the quilt. They can be picked up at Dorcas through Ellen Frazier, or at Cary Quilting Company. What is the deadline for quilts being donated? October 15th What kind of patterns do we prefer? The pattern can be simple, or more complex, depending on your preference. Some quilters familiar with Dorcas are designing a quilt using memorabilia and pictures from Dorcas’ past. We want to appeal to a broad group of potential buyers so the more diverse the sizes, themes, and patterns, the better. What sizes are we looking for people to donate? We would prefer to have a variety of quilts so anything goes! Free PatternIt's an amazing quilt and a free pattern, designed by Libs Elliot herself! If you make this quilt, you'd better come show us at the shop! Quilt finishes at 84" x 84". |
