As we continue to navigate life during the pandemic, the sense of renewal that this season brings is especially poignant and welcome this year. So far this spring, The FriendShip has enjoyed some terrific activities, including our Zoom program with the amazing K9 Team of the Columbia Police Department in March, a fun social hour, and a special partnership with Service in the Soda City. Alongside these activities, The FriendShip's volunteers continue to provide a "helping hand" to members every day with everything from providing rides to doctor's appointments and running errands to helping with things like hanging curtains and more! We are excited to be welcoming aboard several new members and volunteers this month. And, we look forward to more chances to connect, learn together, and help one another in April. Read below to find out what is in store in the coming weeks! Events-at-a-Glance
Thanks to our Partners from Service in the Soda City! The FriendShip is so grateful to the St. John's Episcopal Church volunteers from Service in the Soda City who helped our members with yard projects during their annual Saturday of Service on March 27. We have been partnering with this group for several years now, and it is always a pleasure to work with their energetic crew! They assisted with yard work including cleaning gutters, picking up yard debris, and more! Meet an Olympian in Our Midst! (April 14)Get on deck for a fabulous Zoom program on Wednesday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m. You will want to be seated in the bow for this one. Local resident and Olympic rower Emory Clark will talk to us about his career rowing at Gorton School, Yale University, and the 1964 Olympic games in Tokyo! Along the way, Clark served in the US Marine Corps, rowed with Grace Kelly’s brother Jack as a member of Philadelphia's Vesper Boat Club, practiced law, and raced competitively in regattas around the world for 25 years. Guests are welcome! If you haven't already done so, please let The FriendShip office know you plan to Zoom with us by calling the office at 803-602-6434 or sending your RSVP to contact@thefriendship.org. The Zoom information will be sent out in advance to all members, volunteers, and guests who RSVP. Afternoon Social Hour (April 27)On the fourth Tuesday of each month, members and volunteers get together to chat and get to know one another better during our Afternoon Social Hours. Our next gathering will be on Tuesday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. via Zoom. Please join us to catch up with others in the network! More details are forthcoming. If you still haven't tried Zoom yet, it's not too late. Our volunteers can help get you set up to participate. You can join from a tablet or computer, or you can even just dial in from a landline!
