NEWSLETTER - 27 APRIL 2017 CONTENTS SPOTLIGHT - STEELCASE THE NEW LEADER SPOTLIGHT THE NEW LEADER Leaders must navigate in an rapidly evolving and unpredictable business landscape. However, 58% are still working in traditional private offices, which do not correspond to today’s challenges. They don’t support spontaneous interaction with employees and keep leadership separated from the rest of the organisation. Moreover, space is the body language of an organisation: it is a way to communicate and send messages to employees and as a result it can influence the company culture. Space can help leaders to lead, creating the conditions for an engaged, agile and resilient workforce. Steelcase's leadership community is in a highly accessible, high-traffic area on the main level of the company's Learning and Innovation Center. Therefore, administrative assistants sit together as a team alongside leaders, and several executives share administrative support. The main objective is to empower employees to be autonomous by positioning the executive team on a main floor at crossroads of the site, so they are accessible for everybody. This results in :
Contact: Olivier Dauca WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS We are pleased to welcome as Corporate members: UNIVERSITY OF KENT We are pleased to welcome as Entrepreneur members: URICA NEW WAYS OF WORKING AND Today, pay is not sufficient enough anymore to motivate teams. Over the past few years, many “new” factors have emerged: company culture, office environment, new employee integration process, the balance between personal and professional life… For example, at Hays, the offices are pleasant, comfy and we do our best to make our employees feel good. We also regularly organise internal events to reinforce team spirit and to make
exchanges easier between managers and their teams. At Hays, we are convinced that our employees’ fulfilment enhances our company and that well-being at work is one of the key elements for performance. Contact: Pressy Gunasekar THE POPULARITY OF COWORKING Companies are currently striving to reduce their cost burdens linked to renting office space which does not offer the flexibility to expand and contract as a result of moving markets and economical conditions. Coworking is fast becoming the norm as it provides an ideal solution for larger organisations looking to house specific project teams or for business start-ups to provide a collaborative atmosphere. Given that, the ability to take space for short periods enables businesses to reduce overall fixed office space whilst offering fully functional environments. This new trend will continue to grow as companies look to further rationalise and diversify their platforms and facilities. Companies like American group WeWork are leading the way in innovative coworking environments which provide both functional and social interaction across diverse service providers. As a result, communities are established and companies thrive, with cross pollination of businesses and expertise. ISG Europe Contact: Alexa Hendry For one specific project Gleeds worked towards renovating an office space with the objective of enabling all employees to be mobile. This included the creation of diverse and unique spaces such as; open spaces with non-assigned desks, areas with high tables and chairs for group discussions, various types of meeting room areas, cosy areas and even individual telephone cabines that enable employees to make phone calls but also make as much noise as they want without disturbing any other employees. We were involved in the creation of a unique meeting room called “creativity room” where employees can gather together to discuss all kinds of projects in an informal manner with comfy and fun furniture such as yoga balls. All of these areas are equipped with interactive boards and tablets that enable employees to easily share ideas and present new projects. Contact: Eleanor
Braund Pour les britanniques, la réunion est un processus, c’est-à-dire qu’elle se déroule selon un schéma ordonné pour aboutir à quelque chose. Meetings in France are conducted in a very different manner with totally different outcomes. For the French, a meeting is a debate in which ideas and decision implementations are tested. Consensus may or may not be reached. We are delighted to announce that on 2nd May we will be joined by Anne-Sophie Gervais d’Aldin from Pôle Emploi who will deliver a presentation on the agency’s International Mobility service. Please note that this event is exclusively for paying SME members of the Franco-British Chamber. The ability to prepare and deliver a well-structured and engaging presentation can often make the difference between success and failure in business. No matter how clever you are, no matter how good your proposition is, your ability to communicate and sell your ideas effectively will ultimately determine how you are viewed by your superiors and by your clients. It is something that becomes increasingly important the more senior you are. However, preparing and delivering a well-structured and convincing presentation is not always easy. In particular, culture and educational differences between countries can render this process more complicated in an international environment. With more than 35 years’ experience of delivering successful presentations worldwide, Edward Archer, President of Ecna Consulting, would now like to help you with yours.
