Rising Tide of Open Water Swimming

Open Water swimming is on the rise with an 8% growth in participation in the UK from 2015 to 2016 and a 44% increase in Scottish Swimming’s open water events this year. Autumn has definitely arrived. As we reflect on the calm summer days of the 2016 Open Water swimming season of Loch Lomond, Loch Venachar, the Helix Lagoon, Loch Ken, Knockburn Loch and more – let's not forget the peace of mind provided by our ongoing partnership with RNLI, RLSS and the network of qualified volunteers who ensure safety at all of our events. We caught up with Jim Gallagher of the Royal Life Saving Society (Scottish Region) who outlined five key lines of safety at the events:  you, the kayaks, the rescue boats, the first aid volunteers and the officials.

Masterclass from Robbie Renwick

More than 40 Masters swimmers from 16 clubs across Scotland benefited from a Master Class with Olympic Silver medallist Robbie Renwick at Stirling National Swimming Academy. Robbie, who has featured in every major Olympic or world championship for Britain since 2007, is an inspiration to swimmers of all ages and is also a real team athlete, playing a key role in the 200m freestyle relay teams in several international championships.
