A tourist was washed from the rocks and was in distress at the mouth of the Sherbrook River, near the Twelve Apostles in Victoria. Father and son, Ross and Andy Powell along with a fellow lifesaver Phillip Younis, responded to the incident in treacherous conditions. Tragically during this rescue mission, their boat overturned resulting in both Powell men losing their lives. To acknowledge the actions and heroism of the Powells, the State Operations Centre (SOC) broadcast a statewide radio message at 12:30pm on Monday 22 April. Acting SLSNSW President Brian Wilcox called on all 129 clubs on patrol to pause for minute's silence whilst facing the ocean.
